Glad to know I'm not the only one rolling the dice by checking everything. Figured I'd just buy new boots and hit the credit card's delayed/lost baggage policy if needed. But yes, also usually fly direct too.

Yeah, SLC/Spokane is direct on Delta both ways, so is SLC/Boise, those are generally the only winter flights I do.

I hope you're about to roll the dice on a trip to Japan or BC right now.... :D
I've got three coming up, Baldface Jan 4th, Baldface Feb 2nd and then Stellar Heli Feb 22nd... With maybe a quick weekend trip to Brundage with the old homies as well... The basically no cost flying benefit from the wife's job is glorious.
And your USD compared to our Canadian peso now that’s how to travel

Yeah I can only imagine. I just did the reverse and was down in Arizona for a week it was not a steal.

Im also going to JP this season for the first time ever.
Thinking board, binding and riding gear in the board bag, regular clothes in hard suitcase, boots and helmet in the carry on and travel essentials in a small backpack.
Probably overthinking it as usual.
Just don't end up hauling everything along through several transfer in the busy hours, like I did the first time and it's fine. Resort buses and Yamatos (black cats) are nice. But yeah, boots as carryon, unless they smell really bad 🤥

I dont think much about that trendy luggage company Away, but their take on the boot bag is interesting... well thought out compartments

It's 60L, I like being able to take my helmet+boots with me since it's a bit more difficult to find boots versus demoing boards/bindings if shit goes missing.

Anyone have a 40Lish bag they like that consistently fits overhead bins? broad, i know. FWIW, i'm usually on delta flights.
I roll with my Burton Rider Bag, which I think is around 70L. Technically exceeds overhead bin dimensions but I've never had problems as long as I only half fill it with boots and soft goods. I got low key hassled once in Japan, but gate crew let it slide once they realized it had no structure and would conform easily into the space.

I think I did have to wear my helmet onto the plane that time though lol

Dropped in on the Union Board Bag. For sure has more room than my old Burton Bag.
