by the way... I really like your DOA wide... There are riders who say it's very playful, others say it's very hard... But I have it in my shotgun scope
I love my DOA! It's really playful and a lot softer than my Super 8 or Passport. Its flex combined with the flat-to-rocker sections in the tip and tail make it really buttery and forgiving, but it still has great pop and can hold a relatively decent edge. Not stiff at all IMO and made the whole mountain a terrain park, which has traditionally been my favorite style of riding.
jclinares wrote: Tue Mar 05, 2024 7:52 am Haven't ridden a DOA in years, but I wouldn't classify it as "playful". It's not a demanding ride, but there's definitely an "oomph" to that board; and Capita has other more playful options. Indoor Survival, for example.
Totally opposite experience for me with the '24 DOA and '23 Indoor. The Indoor feels way more locked in and precise with its (basically) full camber profile and stiffer flex, whereas this year's DOA feels really playful and forgiving with its big flat/rocker sections and softer flex. Several reviews have suggested the DOA has been getting softer these past few seasons.
You poison me with your wise choices. first the SB powder racer and now DOA wide 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

My idea was to get the ultrafear and then the DOAw but maybe they are very similar...

I like wide boards although I have 8.5us and the problem with the DOA is that this year the reference stance is 56 and it’s too much for me. I ride 53 (it doesn't leave me much option since I would have to be in the narrower inserts and from there I couldn't delay if I want...).
Next year's is 53 but I don't like the board very much. the wide of this year is great…
The Powder Racer is my favorite pow board of all time. It has so much float! It and the DOA make a great two board vacation quiver.

I haven't ridden the new Ultrafear, but they do look similar specs wise. Looks like the DOA has a slightly longer effective edge and a blended sidecut instead of a single radius. Construction-wise, the DOA has a sintered base and biax glass with carbon inlays, where the Ultrafear has an extruded based with triax glass and no carbon inlays. Probably a toss up, but the ultrafear seems a little more jib oriented and the DOA a little more all mountain freestyle.

That's exactly what I got the DOA for and it's perfect for it.

brought my rear foot up one set of inserts from ref as an experiment and loving it. if it gets quite deep i'll push things back, but have more than enough nose in knee deep snow.

after getting a base grind and fresh wax, it seems a little faster accelerating than it was from the factory and the overall glide and momentum is quite noticeable.
How did you do the grinding? In workshop?
I made a homemade one... I still don't know if it works or I made a mistake...
i have a ski/snowboard manufacturer a few blocks from where i live, and had them do it. they tune all my gear and my fiancé's stuff as well.

i've never done this before and usually just wax my boards from factory and do base grinding down the road, but wanted to give this route a try as it seemed logical per talking to a few folks who are much more knowledgeable than me in this area

Old DOA was stiffer under the foot and had weird flex points aka pre 22/23 boards. New DOA is more playful and have even flex throughout the board. I hated the old one and the new one is my favorite board right now :D

@eleveneightnate , @bagis The two things I don't like about the DOA that I am sure will be my next board are
1/ this year's stance is very wide (56cm, 22”) and I use 52cm and it forces me to be in the inside inserts without the possibility of movement (the new next season It already has stance 53cm, 21”)
2/ I hate that it has so many sizes. (It’s a joke🥊) but it forces me to rack my brain to choose 😵‍💫😵‍💫 The 51w… the 53w… (with 70k 154L and 1.70m 5.7”) should be fine in the 51 (and now i prefer wide and short boards) but with a centered stance, I don't like ride with too little nose, and the 53w... 🤯🤯

Are you centered on your stance or with setback?
C2 & purepop/vans infuse/skate tech/ AK …

there are, no bad snow

I have some hip problems and i ride pretty small stance. 154 doa with 51cm stance :D Smallest inserts i still pull my Forces one binding hole smaller lol and centered.

For those riding the DOA, how does the longer effective edge feel for you. I had a 56 DOA (prob 18-19ish) and it was fun. I always wondered if I should downsize due to the longer ee, the 58 just seemed like way too much. Im sure the boards have changed some since then, but wanted to see what you guys think of it as Ive been eyeing them again.

I have the 157w with 1239mm effective edge, which is pretty long, but it's not something that jumps out to me when I'm riding. It's decently nimble and definitely not overly locked in feeling if that's what you're worried about.
