I'm 68 and still no StepOns. I can still touch my toes so I'm good.

51 and young and love my basic ass Step Ons on an easy-ride daily driver for family day/laid back seshs with Eddi Bull.

Don't pair them with a serious board like a cadet, that's silly (sorry my dude who thought his cadet was underwhelming - it's not your cadet it's your step ons).

Gonna seek out a gently used pair of SO X and ions or photons for next year.

Step On X EST with springbed might work, and Salomon or 32 wide boots.

Wut?
I have step ons + ions and its pretty much the near hardboot levels of response. More responsive than my mercurys/lunarendors for sure.
What boot do you have ? Anything below ions are a no go on any stiff board.

Hmmm. Not I really. I ride Korua’s which are stiff, and ride DC T-Rice which is a pretty soft boot and it’s heaven.

I can’t stand stiff boots, I need medial/lateral flex and a good amount. Stiff bindings though I love.

The takeaway is it's always 100% preference. Yes, of course, a stiffer boot and binding interface provides more powerful response, but whether that is "better" or "worse" is never going to be fact-based.

A lot of people keep their interface playful on "serious" boards (Gigi being a legend example). A lot of people like a stiff interface on a playful board (Blake Paul etc). Then you have playful/playful, and stiff/stiff, and everything in between.

We're on the same team. I've had stiff boots like Driver X and superstiff Solomon boots for years, but now I'm super happy with responsive bindings and softish/medium flexing boots. That combo just works for me in all conditions and all terrain. I'm tempted to say that stiff boots might help me to better dig trenches, but I'm not 100% sure that's even true, at least in my case anyway.

Haha, original Step Ons, which I have, with Ions and highbacks all the way forward, are by far the most responsive combo, what I had tried. Many would say that it is too responsive for aggressive boards, but this is how I like it, probably because I mostly do carving, which is supposed to be best to do with hardboots anyway... Step On 2.0 (current) are less responsive.

The reason I do not like the Cadet at all, but absolutely love the Transmission, is because those boards have opposite sidecut shapes ("quadratic equation" vs "oval"), but definitely not because bindings.

Also, I hate the Cadet because it does not have even the slightest dampening. I already have "pow-board" without any dampening, which carves much better, than Cadet – Straight Chuter.
