The Official Korua Shapes Thread

I want to take the plunge for a TF, but I think I'm going to buy another Super 8, before.
I also never thought about a Dart as a dedicated pow board, but the specs look super interesting, in similar size (147) as my Fishcuit (retired).

I would like to contact them to know the TF and Dart width at rear inserts pack, as suggested by Lars Youtube video

I contacted Korua about the difference between the Poland and China produced boards and got this reply:
"That's right. We made our freestyle oriented shapes Otto and TF a little softer." It's actually got me more interested in those shapes again. I've ridden both models from the Poland factory and they are amazing for doing Korua stuff but simply having a tail is not really enough to call them freestyle IMO.

I got a similar reply, but they said they just made the smaller sizes a bit softer to make them more inclusive to smaller lighter riders. But as I said, I held new NOS 57 side by side and could tell no difference in the Otto 57 flex.

Korua's fallen by wayside a little bit for me personally. They just don't make the shape I want: 160+ size, 123+ effective edge, on their 269 mm waist mold, bit of taper, enough tail that I don't feel drunk riding switch. Bigger TF sizes were my best bet for that shape, and then they put it on the wider 278 mm waist platform. My K2 Instrument 63 is basically the shape I wanted out of Korua, so I haven't stressed too hard.

And this probably shouldn't affect me as much as it does, but consecutive lackluster video releases since Yearning for Turning 10 dropped them off my radar a bit.

I was pretty surprised chatting with @pow_hnd and him considering jumping off the Korua train-- but that was a quick turnaround to being back on board. He keeps pushing the Otto 161... lack of taper and little light on edge, so I'm a bit skeptical, but I'll jump on one eventually. Maybe next time I visit SLC.

While I don't ever see myself not having at least a couple Koruas in the active quiver, I'm definitely back to riding other companies' boards more often.
The Pencil 164 will be pretty hard to dethrone as my favourite board of all time.

trying to get on an otto sometime soon as i just love the transition finder so much, but want a more freestyle oriented board smaller than a 160 for resort/park days, which seem to be 1 out of my 3 riding days at the current clip.

despite korua saying riding switch is just fine on a TF, even with the bindings at the forward inserts, it is... not the best. better than where i had it at ref, but still too little tail and weird characteristics.

such a fun board otherwise though, hard for me to pick up anything else in the quiver at the moment

I think Korua are a good example of the idea that not all edges are created equal. The power from the edge on Koruas feels greater, cm for cm, than any other boards I've ridden. The Otto turns more or less as hard and floats pretty much as well as the other boards in the line so you might love it even if the EE is a bit shorter than you usually prefer.

Love my Dart, never letting it go. And not just for pow either. Probably getting a TF soon and would love to test drive an Otto.

Said this in Capita thread, but I'm low-key tempted by next year's Aeronaut 162W as the board I've been wishing for out of Korua for 4-5 years. Tons of edge, 269 mm waist width, tiny bit of taper, 8.3 m average sidecut, white topsheet with red base lol, directional but manageable switch.

If Korua's made some version of this board (not TOO far off from a 163 TF on the 269 mm wide profile), I'd basically have stopped hunting for a daily driver years ago.

It's stupid how fun this thing is. We got an absolute buttload of snow the past week, but then it went warm/wet, so everything is super heavy. Groomers are very springy, slashy, and carvy today, the leftovers are still very thick but really fun, and side hits are coming out. Perfect day to give it a try.

Started with their reference setback, but was feeling like the tail was a bit loose, keeping in mind I'm coming from the orbit and longer boards with less taper. Just moved each binding 1cm forward, and that made a nice little difference. I could maybe see doing another cm, but I'll do that later.

With the early rise at each end, the otherwise healthy camber profile definitely feels "free" in comparison to my other boards, but in a perfect way for this shape. Loving the slashy nature of the tail within the overall package. It's like it has some carving/stability elements from the orbit and others I typically ride, and playful turny/slashy elements from the fish in the rear. It's definitely in the realm of what I still like these days, but it reminded me of some of the things I miss about the nature of the fish as an all-around board. The orbit does ride a bit stiffer all around, but I really liked the flex in general. Nice stiffer medium, not demanding but plenty stabile.

Upper mountain was starting to get some firm spots by the end of the day, and I could see not wanting it for those conditions. It's not that the board can't do it, just a personal preference for the fairly aggressive low-taper camber boards I'm used to, which hold differently. I'm sure that would go away if I kept riding it daily.

Personally, I have no idea why I would want a plus version, if they are lighter and not as damp. I would not call this a heavy board whatsoever (feels pretty light to me), and I wouldn't want to lose any of the damping it does have.

Really curious about the new shape with reduced taper. Should have bought one of those instead of the transmission, I'll say that.
