do we have a pack thread?

very tempted by this one. tried the Volcom vest and ended up selling cause it just wasn't quite right, and I'm skeptical of the Dakine's fitting me. the stretch panels on the sides here look like they have potential.

I didn’t like the Volcom one I tried on either, it felt really long and the pocket layout wasn’t the best. I bought the DaKine without trying it on and the S/M fits me great (I’m a pretty standard Volcom/Airblaster Medium). I’m excited to ride in it soon.

I'm curious to try one of the backcountry vests, but I have no issues with regular packs. I only split/hike a little throughout the season, and usually my pack lives down at the lift for water storage, but it's ready if the ridge opens and we leave the boundary. I'm still running 26L & 20L Dakine helis from 10+ years ago. 26 is when I carry a board or am going to be out a little longer, like if I'm filming a jump, and 20 is when I split for a lap/hike sidecountry. Don't ever need more room than that for my days.

One of these fits in the front pocket of the DaKine vest and that is pretty sweet

That Safeback thing is interesting. Looks like basically the Avalung without having to bite down on a mouthpiece in the middle of a slide. Way lighter than an airbag and fewer complications trying to travel with one.

The lack of capacity on that vest is a dealbreaker though. 8L capacity is nothing... absolute bare essentials. Maybe fine if I'm lift-assisted, but that is not useful capacity on a human-powered assent where I'll be carrying at minimum a puffy and some water.

I'm fully team vest though. I wear a WhatVest and will not wear a pack unless I have to. Gives me around 20L capacity and all the advantages Sage mentions-- everything sits closer to my center of gravity and I can balance weight in the front and back. It's comfortable enough that I ride with my full avy kit on pow days.

I finally got to try out my Airblaster Beast 3l jacket today, the massive pockets fit my skins beautifully for the way down. I didn't realize how excited I was going to be about that.

I came very close to grabbing one of the 3L beast jackets in the two-tone spruce color this week. Not sure why, as I already have the longo in military.

...instead I picked up another longo in the new khakiest color, so I can go back to tan-man brown-bag.

I really like their new cocard colors and some others.

i’ve actually got the “standard” Arthur pants in off-white, too, which I’ll pair with the SHE fleece occasionally.

if you’re not channeling Longo in gear or style somehow, are you really a mid-30’s snowboarder?
