Who was making them before Nobile?kimchi wrote: Thu Dec 08, 2022 7:00 pm So found out couple days ago that I owned an older Cafe Racer that was from Korua's pre-Nobile facility. The new ones have full-wrap edges, mine still had Mervin-style edges that stopped just past the contact points.
I probably need to ride a new one. I had the impression that CR had a more "neutral" and kind lifeless feel, but that may just be the old construction from the old facility. Parker ain't on new EZL yet, but told me the old shapes from the old factory were lifeless pieces of crap, and now he's all in on Korua... think he's 4 or 5 deep. Definitely was night and day between that board and the Nobile-produced TFs and Stealth I've ridden.
Hmm… Both my Pencils (Split and Plus) are 4+ years old. I love 'em (especially the split) but I did notice the Pin Tonic I got for this season has a higher level of finish to it. (Also the red base on the Pencil Split did need a grind before it was usable.)

Not sure which factory pre-Nobile, although about 4 years ago was the time of the transition.spurist wrote: Sun Dec 11, 2022 2:50 am Who was making them before Nobile?

@Parker thank you for just using your name and not forcing me to double-check how many R's you put in @parkerrrrrrr like the last EZL

I think the changeover happened around 2019. Parker shit on the early Korua stuff a LOT and obviously likes the Nobile builds.

Got a new Escalator split yesterday. Can't wait to get out on it. Gotta get Phantom treatment done first, will take it today and drop it off, hopefully get it back tomorrow...

Did you Phantom the topsheet too, or was that extruded? (mostly joking but kinda curious)

Re: The Official Korua Shapes Thread
This deck, Otto 57, is fast becoming my favorite.
That last few seasons I have been all about the TF54 ( OG ), so much as I went and got a NOS to keep as a backup for when my current one comes to the end of its life.
With that being said, I really decided to start riding the Otto 57 much more early season and have it get sacrificed to the early season sharks and preserve my TF54s.
Monday we woke up to 17" new of Utah blower. Partied all day on the TF54, fucking loving it.
Yesterday there was only 5" new and they groomed a shitload more of the resort so I decided to roll with the Otto.
FUCK! The Otto rules. Even though they call it a "twin" it really is what a directional deck used to be 20 years ago. Camber, set back, no taper, stiff, longer nose than tail ( just a bit ). It also has the new school addition of a rockered nose.
Going into pow stashes yesterday that were now 20"+ deep was no issues, never once was it a struggle. ( Utah blower does help with that ) But this deck is so fun and I was side hits and side of the run pow slashes all day long, had me feeling like I was in my 20s again. ( the total knee replacement might have something to do with that as well )
The other biggest thing is, for a solid 20 years, I was riding 162-165 decks every day. Now I'm riding a 54 as my main pow deck and a 57 as my daily driver.
Damn I love this brand!

Re: The Official Korua Shapes Thread
I soooooo wish Korua had a board for me. Only boards in the line that are big enough for me outside of mellow pow days are probably Dart 60/65, Escalator 62, Trenchdigger 65, CR 64. If I didn't already have a swallowtail pow board and a split I might consider those first two, but neither is an everyday driver. TF and Otto both super interesting me, but I need a size bigger than top of their size runs.
I have talked about this ad nausem (and specifically with @pow_hnd) but if my Stealth 63 just had a tooooooouch more tail deflection I would have been good.
