Snowboard Luggage/Bags
Re: Snowboard Luggage/Bags
I borrowed a Dakine Heli 12. It rides really comfortable. Having said that, it's pretty barebones. My Anon m3s (and I assume most mid-large frame goggles) won't fit in the goggle compartment is probably the only minus on it.

@Spenser I love my DaKine vest for this, the front pockets get snacks and soft flask water bottles, avy gear in the big pocket, and slim enough to be really comfy on the lift.

I’ve got the the oneball baker pack and really like it for cat days / side country. Quality is mostly good, some loose threads but overall is well made. I like how light the pack is so you barely feel it, but has enough space for water, snacks, extra layer, etc.

@scrub I have the DaKine vest, the 12L backpack is less restrictive.
There were two other backpacks I've tried on; the Mammut Nirvana 18 and the Patagonia Snowdrifter 20, they are both great and have some nice features, but they don't support vertical snowboard carry. AFAIK, the Dakine 12L is the smallest one that does. I personally find that feature essential, there are many in-bound bootpacks that being hands free is advantageous and having your board secured in a place where accidentally dropping it (and your board running away) would be catastrophic

The Burton Dispatcher vest is the absolute best I've had. Not only does it fit super well and have a bunch of functional front pockets and the ability to stick your skins in the front inside pockets, but it's crazy slim. It's the only low volume vest/pack that I've had that I feel 100% comfortable riding the lifts with and never taking it off.Spenser wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 10:40 pm Anyone have strong feelings on a small (~12-14L) sidecountry pack that holds avy gear and water + vertical board carry? My DK heli 20 is functionally fine & great size for a tour, but I don't need the extra room when we hike from the chair. Just thinking slim.
I'm looking at the oneball little wing 12, and Dakine poacher 14, maybe heli 12. Have looked at others & am most attracted to those.
I've had super small packs from Burton and the Volcom and Dakine vest. This vest is by far the best.

yeah that vest is great. That would have been my first recommendation too, but it was never in stock/available this season. I regret not buying it the one time I saw it in store last winter

They are in the pipeline. This was a conversation with the person in charge of production just two weeks ago....benjinyc wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 8:07 am yeah that vest is great. Re: Snowboard Luggage/Bags
the AK Surgence pack was one that I had looked into, but didn't fit quite right. should be good for you smaller dudes, though.
the straps are more like what you'd find on a running vest with some pockets for soft water bottles/snacks and lots of bungee straps to lock stuff down.

I like my Db vest. Fits all the avy gear + items you mentioned. You can fit whole bottles of wine in the front pockets if that's your vibe too.
