I don't know that the banked country is stiffer than the flight attendant or deep thinker. It's not a super stiff board at all, maybe a 7, but it's also going to have a different flex/core profile than anything Burton.

Rig is probably a good choice

I’d love to demo them but it doesn’t seem like there is much in the way of demos around here until the end of March.

I feel like the Banked Country is noticeably less stiff than my Deep Thinker was from a few years ago. As for being too stiff for steeps and tight trees, the Banked Country is very quick edge-to-edge, so I don't think the stiffness is that much of a factor. In fact for me, the steeper the terrain, the more likely the Banked Country would be my first choice. Never been on a Rig though, I don't know anyone that has ridden one so I'm not sure how it would compare.

Since sale time is coming up I really need to start looking for a daily driver to replace my Burton Flight Attendant and Deep Thinker and I am considering a Lib Rig. I live in the PNW and I've never owned anything Mervin, I feel like we have been getting a lot more firm snow over the past couple of seasons and I am Magnetraction curious. The slow bases always turned me off the Dynamo and I think the Banked Country will be too stiff for me when it comes to riding the steep and tight trees we have at my local, we also don't have the longest runs and things get tracked out quick so I don't need a lovely groomer carver.

• I prefer to "pedal" with my feet in the trees and value slow-speed maneuverability over high-speed stability

• I ride with skiers a lot and need to keep speed in the flats with frequent waxing will it be as fast as my Burtons

• Size 8.5 boot, 170lbs, 5'6" looking at the 156

• Even though I need the low-speed maneuverability I still like to straight line through choppy end of day snow

is the Rig for me?

I snagged the Rig this season and I like it. I'm 180lbs on the 159 and it feels very mid-flex to me. Mayyybe 6/10. The flex has this "smoothness" that makes it feel familiar and broken-in. It butters and pops well. In general, I don't like magne-traction but it seems to work on the Rig. Like it's there when you need it but not obtrusive otherwise. It had great edge hold on some icy night laps out here in NC. Surprisingly stable/damp in choppy stuff, too. The base needs routine wax, though, and just overall feels sluggish and low quality per (Mervin) usual.

So you buy a 650€ snowboard and it needs a 100€ base grind.. pft Mervin, shame on you! I hope now with Nidecker buying Mervin they up their game with better quality.

Ownership isn't gonna change the factory or processes - never has before when Mervin went through different owners.

I've never had a performance problem with a mervin base, but they do tend to dry out more quickly.

echo sentiments here, my banked country dries out very quickly, have had to wax this board more than any other i've owned. base is pretty quick but def gonna do a base grind sometime soon.

I got a base grind on mine and it helps for sure. Can get an extra day or two from each waxing before it starts to go white and hairy.

Same, My BC and Gremlin have good bases. If you want to be fast you have to wax.
Please, one of you reviewers reading this site please go buy a new Mervin board (sintered base) and some other board with a similar base. Give them a new wax job with the same wax, go ride on the same day in same conditions and do a comparison.

Who can directly compare the Rig with the BC? @Kevington? I enjoyed the 155 BC but think the jump to the 159 might be a bit much, wish they had like a 157. Does the Rig 159 fit in there with it's shorter contact length? Or is it really shorter. I feel like I just want a bit more width and edge than the BC 155 was giving me. The bit of extra taper is nice too.
