im not suprised that public bases arent that good, have been waxing it after every day i have taken it out and after 2-3h its a total whiteout on the base.

guess i have to do a base grind to it but none of the boards i have ever had this bad base,

3 days of riding and five waxes and it still drys out super fast.

like my old Nitro Squash sintered base (but it was not as bad). The base grind, in my case, didn't help, unfortunately (I loved that board)

I'm not saying that base is good, it is a problem, but understanding the cause just may help to deal with it, at least it helped me. If it is excessive wax, rewaxing wont help, but brushing after riding just may.

Hahah yeah i know rewax is not the case but im just trying to wax it when its new after every day riding.

you could also try using cold wax around the edge of the base.

I did think I had this issue with an old DOA where one section of the base always looked white/dry, but turned out I actually had a slight base delamination going on

yeah just waxed it, gonna get a base grind in georgia if it doesnt get any better.

those white spots are all around the base.

I didn’t do physics or chemistry. Can someone explain to me why edges are more prone to oxidizing after I’ve done some edge work? If a board’s edges are in good shape out of the wrapper, I just ride them. But once I take files and hones to them, rusty spots start to pop up before I can even get home from the hill.
Am I missing something? Is it just me?

It happens to me too. When the edge is in contact with water in the bag (snow falling from the bindings and things like that) I think that new boards should have some product or oil or something like that to protect the edges until the moment of sale. From then on, water is their enemy. The edge is a metal without anti-oxidation properties so. cheap. We have already talked here in EL about stainless steel edges. For many EL riders it’s nonsense… I hate coming home and seeing a rusty edge. In any case, before putting the board in the bag, it is better to dry it well.

But maybe someone will be able to answer you better than me speaking about the edge and its properties

You could always put some oil on it, and make sure it's stored in a dry place. The surface will be more open to rusting once you file/sand it, just the way it is, untouched it's probably been heat treated or something. Stainless is not as good for shaping, it's harder and more brittle. If you don't plan on touching the edge, don't need sharp edges, or rust ruins your estetics/peace of mind and you don't know how to cope with it, stainless can work.

Rust is mostly excess byproduct on the surface, and expands alot, so it's not as bad as it looks by far. Just brush it off.

Edges are often rust protected from factory (waxed). Paste-like wax is very handy for that, this one is especially greasy: I always wax my edges and sidewalls.

Oh yeah, oil might be bad for the plastics and stuff.

Yep it’s just moisture causing it. I have a lot of steel knives that if I don’t wipe down immediately it will oxidize. Casjcade is right about stainless steel not being great for edges, same goes for knives as well. Basically dulls quick and you can’t re-sharpen. Why nicer knives are made out of carbon steel.
