I rode a Kleveland Pro yesterday (a 157 and I weigh 140 lbs). I was surprised to find that I loved it. A 157 is a bigger board that I normally ride (CAPiTA Outsiders 154 is my daily); With a catalog flex of 8/10, I thought the board was going to ride me. However, I thought it actually had a nice park flex (felt softer than my Outsiders 54)- the milling between the bindings really does mellow out the overall power of the board without sacrificing any pop. Simply put, it was really snappy and powerful, but I could still press it pretty easily and the softer torsional flex was welcomed.

it's pretty basic. A twin is identical. If the deck is not identical with a fully centered stance, then it's directional. For a long time though, any deck with the word Twin in its description sold better to the masses.

Companies can learn to do better messaging on decks with minimal taper and set-back, or directional flexes, etc, etc. Instead they are lazy and call it a Directional Twin.

Twin says the nose and tail are the same. Doesn’t necessarily specify in the term “twin” that it is referring to flex or shape. Tis’ the reason the term “true twin” existed/exists. To communicate both flex and shape in to one term. I don’t know you talk about needing better communication about shape and flex, a single 2 word term seems like a dang efficient way to do that. Lazy in the sense that brands never differentiate between twin shape dir flex and dir shape twin flex maybe, but directional twin seems like a perfectly adequate and effective term to me.

Here's a perfect example of what I was talking about.

This deck is not a twin in any way shape or form. BUT YET, to boost those sales, it's called a "Directional Twin" even though it has taper. tapered sidecut, a directional flex and a directional core.

Oh TOTALLY agree on this one. There is zero reason to call this a directional twin. Another that does bother me is the tapered twin. Like that's just a directional board bud, don't need to throw twin in where it doesn't belong.

To be fair, most people aren't up in arms about anyone's personal preferences here and never have been (debating the merit/function of actual products and marketing claims is different IMO). Mr. Partridge came in and explicitly asked us for our opinions on various things, which people gave, but he didn't like the answers so he started appealing to authority and making wild claims like "people who ride ultras, stratas or contact pros don't ride swallow tails" lol... Of course people are gonna push back. Same with "hey guys let's talk about Step Ons" "okay, i don't like them" "NO you can't say that, you must not be a shredder and know how to fit your boots properly!".

It's just a couple of people that can't cope with differing preferences, but that doesn't mean the rest of EZ is ruined or something.

the point i was trying to make is the float pack isn’t stupid because it doesn’t work with every binding out there, also including EST. and gigi isn’t the type of rider i would imagine grabbing a swallow tail as his board of choice after it had just dumped snow. just look at the line of slash models.

creativity is hard wired into snowboarding and i love that riders try all sorts of product combinations and setups. the only thing i don’t like is people breaking gear when using them in a way that is not design for and then expecting a warranty (i.e. mount a 4x2 disc on a 4x4 board with only 2 screws). my point was that riders with mini disc freestyle binding are less likely want to ride the jones float pack. this is because, they are more likely to want to spin off drops and kickers and landing switch, set that far back would be difficult in powder. so with the laws of diminishing returns, i imagine jones would have decided there was not enough value in a 4x2 float pack. disclaimer: i am not involved in jones board and so are assuming all this and am going on my past experience with board designs. also sale would probably come into factor as it is more noticeable having the float pack in a different hole pattern than the reference stance. if no one notices the feature, then it is more likely to be redundant. also if a rider wishes to ride float pack with mini disc, then they can buy a moss snowboard the has 4x2 insets set this far back (which i just noticed comparing the jones and moss boards, but is not as well marketed visually). also for clarification, i do own a pair of step-on’s and fully appreciate there place.
