Anyway, to each their own... but without giving it a shot you really don't know what you don't know. I never assume anymore.

We have a cat that manically eats weird ass shit (hairties, nerf bullets, weather stripping around the door, ribbon, etc) and then pukes it up.

I know I worked in the industry in some capacity for almost 20 years and as a buyer for more than a decade and tried on every boot made, and still to this day try on every boot out there. I absolutely know I have fucked up feet and need straps and dual BOA to get a boot to fit and work for me. I absolutely know from friends that step-on is awesome, if it fits your feet.

Trust me, I know what I know without giving it a try.

I have such confidence, that when the boot that is the best fitting I’ve ever had stopped being made, I bought 6 pairs.

Thankfully, that boot is returning to the market in a different form next year and I can’t wait to try it.

Surely it is both - or at least the convenience is a major part of the appeal for many people.

And the performance aspect is not universally superior: Consensus is that the edge/edge-to-edge performance is excellent/superior to strap bindings. But lateral mobility/ability to roll the foot/etc. for freestyle is much more restricted.
Definitely depends on use case and person. I talked to a park rider the other day that switched to step on after the EST came out. He said they were amazing for his type of riding but he hated how the reflex bindings felt.

Won't quit sharing my opinion? Nope that's the point of forums, you have advocates who try to help people by sharing their expert opinion (me) and you have trolls trying to shut them down because they can't imagine anyone else liking something they don't (you).

I never told anyone that they aren't entitled to their own opinion, that's your job.

Edit: Now I remember that you're the guy who said you kept eating shit getting out of stepons. LOL

Again, that's not a fit issue, that's a "you" issue.

You're absolutely right that stepon would suck if the boots don't work. That's a hard stop. I would have never tried it myself, assuming that it would blow for my tough feet, but I demoed them in solidarity with a friend who had interest (I had none). The performance for freeriding/carving coupled with the comfort blew me away. I would have lost that bet.

Happy that your boot is coming back... That's always rough. I went through a similar thing and actually found that the stepon photon/ion was "my boot" -- at least for now. I'll keep trying other boots /systems as they are released.

I have tried probably forty different boots and a ton of binding combos and got to a decent place, but it was much better without straps on this system FOR ME. This was after custom insoles and lots of foam, etc. which was essentially a prereq to even get to a decent fit previously.

Tough feet suck. I'm always envious of riding buddies that seem to have no issues, but also happy not everyone has to go through this hell of bootfitting.

Maybe I'm the one who's wrong, but I don't think of step on as a change, but as a quiver. I have powder boards, freeride boards, park boards, old boards, Camber, purepop, Flying V, C2, and I think of step on as a way to increase my quiver of bindings. I remember in the 90s there were people who had hardboot equipment and softboot equipment, but I don't think: I have one thing and I'm better or I sell my soul to the devil. I think: how cool!! look at all these toys!!
All the combinations to play with 😃😃😃
C2 & purepop/vans infuse/skate tech/ AK …

there are, no bad snow
