He's just making face noises to make stupid content for anyone dumb enough to even watch him. What exactly would Korua do that would result in all those 'changes" he is describing? Every word out of his mouth is nonsense.Spenser wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 7:36 pm It annoys me that I'm even posting this. I don't know why I bother to watch this guy, but angry's new review of the updated transition finder is hard to wrap my head around. He starts by saying it's been years since he's ridden one, and then goes on to make comparisons, listing the exact opposite of reality. It's softer in general, it's softer torsionally, it's less damp, it's less stabile, it doesn't carve as well, it's more loose… some of that could have to do with technique, but most of it is measurably incorrect. We know he's not a great rider, which is fine - until his ego comes in to play. But even when he does ride a board, you know he's not spending much time on them. And in some cases, like this, I don't think he even rode it. The truth is, to do the reviews he does, he doesn't need to. It's an easy formula.
The famous skateboard coffee crash (Garrett Hill) was recently debunked as fake, yet the dude has been milking it for years, and still won't admit it. Who cares, but that's funny. I'm waiting for the day when this happens to angry. Who wants to take a trip to Colorado?
Look at me, I'm a 36 y/o bum complaining about a YouTube reviewer because he's wrong about a board I like

"This board got alot smaller and softer since I rode it before (if the rep didn't send me a preproduction model). Not as damp, but still damp blake lively but more loose. It still eurocarves but doesn't eurocarve as well, if you're into that, I'm not. Whatever. Butter goes on the nose, fuggeddabout butter on the tail. I'm an antiwaxer, just need some structure, and once made a kid cry because he stepped on my board. Hmm was this a smaller size? I don't know I don't care, like and subscribe. Fight me! I have Rome bindings and K2 boots."
I'm not a big review fan in general, can't really tell until I try something, but you get sort of a feeling of where the reviewers are at, comparing boards. Watch some stuff because it's pictures of new gear and I'm an addict. That said, some of the more comedic content, sarcasm and rants are ok.

I’m over the, “I’m gonna act and talk like an arrogant dick because snowboarding is punk rock” vibe. It’s lame. Grow up.
But I like looking at gear, too. I’ll sometimes watch his videos on mute, just like I do with The Good Ride.

a bit of taper, a lot of camber

Warranty update: Strangely slow process in this case... lot of waiting to get a response. I know most people have good experiences with their customer service, so who knows what the deal is. I've been super chill, not hounding them, giving it at least a week before I consider checking in again. Going on a month in total, and 2 weeks since we confirmed a warranty option (last time I heard from him)

Re: The Official Korua Shapes Thread
Some brands use a storage and distribution service, dunno if that's the case there, but that can be a drag sometimes. Had stuff take almost a month when it could take a few days, even if the brand sorted everything the same day. Also gotten the wrong stuff with bs declarations.
Re: The Official Korua Shapes Thread
I could have clarified better, but I'm only talking about my emails with the same guy at korua. He's going to have me send the board back to their place in Canada (from his email two weeks ago) but haven't been able to get to that point because he went MIA again. It's not a big deal, just another odd thing. Shit happens and I don't intend to make them sound bad, just reporting

Re: The Official Korua Shapes Thread
The thing that gives him any credibility is how long he's been doing it... in the sense that there's an assumption he has actually ridden many boards and is able to qualify them or be a good enough rider to attest to the nuance of how a board performs.Spenser wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 8:50 pmAnd what a strange sentiment. It should go without saying - it's reasonable to suggest that someone who reviews countless products & has a large following should be able to show they have an "acceptable" level of competence using said products, especially when there's ego involved. Or, at least be forthcoming with your abilities. There should be a transparent reference point for where the person is coming from.eleveneightnate wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 8:28 pmAgreed. "He doesn't need to show his riding" is like a ritual chant for acceptance into the cult.
It seems like a lot of his following doesn't understand that concept. There's nothing wrong with not being very skilled, but if you're "not that good," how are you really going to break down all these nuances over such a broad range of varied product? And then he just says the same thing every time? Trips me out that it's not obvious to more people
don't you dare talk shit about my snowboard
The whole thing kind of falls apart once exposed as an average (at best) rider because it plants the seed of doubt that he has the abilities to discern what makes different types of boards good. His bias towards twins, to me, has always indicated something telling.
But ploop on over to reddit and quickly gather that the majority of folks knowledge is just regurgitating marketing wank. Yeeterday I read some 5 star turn skidder say that the Now Select Pro wouldn't pair well with an freeride board... upvotes abounded. Blind leading the blind. These folks are so indoctrinated by the wank they have no clue that someone has already ridden gnarlier lines with baseless bindings and duct taped sorels... than they'll ever step to, even with a carbon fiber infused bmjj signature board and bindings pre-certified an heirloom investment.
Angry gets away with his shit because most folks don't know shit about snowboarding, either. They just want to be told what to buy. Angry strokes his fragile ego and pretends to know shit. It all works out.
I got a double WROD day, today. HUZZAH! Took out the nug. After ripping a icy couple turns I rock up to the lift line and a guy who had been following me goes, "good bit of camber on the board eh?!" I Said, "nope. It's reverse." The look on his face as if he couldn't compute that I could rail some hard turns on edge at speed.... with a reverse! All astonished he had to know what board it was... like, it must be some magical instrument! A Burton nug, I said, just a decade old board I'm swizzle swoozling around on. A 146 at that! He must have thought me a liar. Surely that's impossible. Everyone on the internet says so.
Meh.
Per my recent random thoughts comment, I'm grateful to have a place like EL.
