United Shapes

Post by Spenser »

With the news of Alek Oestreng joining the team, realized we didn’t have a US thread yet

I’m wondering how the transition will be, considering the general korua differences.

I’ve dug the US flavor since the original cadet came out. Their board for me is the orbit 57 - one of my favorites to date - but also have a cadet 62MW for a rock board.

Orbit = long edge per size, reasonable but not extra wide waist, stiff, camber, beefy construction & core, and although not a large sidecut, their only over 8m - the 57 is more like a mid-160s that’s been blunted - been my DD for a couple years now. Cadet is very fun and still capable, but a little mellower than I prefer. Perfect for early season before it’s safe to pull out the splitboard.

In my dreams, they’ll take an orbit 57 & 60, but cut out the cadet tip & tail instead, leaving literally everything else an orbit. I suppose that would make them more like a 64 & 67 or something

perfect directional-ish shape and looseness for a midwest all-mountain ride. probably the most similar ride to my old DOA, but shaped to my current tastes.

Broke my Cadet after ~50 days. Still rideable, but a chunk of fiberglass snapped in between the bindings on the heelside and the topsheet is starting to bubble. Only a matter of time before it breaks. Topsheet is still immaculate, so I'm holding onto it as a wall hanger.

Traded the Orbit for a Transition Finder Plus 157. I liked the Orbit better, but I was curious about the Korua Plus line and the TF Plus felt like it'd have better resale value. More importantly, the Orbit was too much board for daily driving at my current fitness level.

Curious what they're up to post-acquisition by Full Stack Supply Co. Apparently FSSC owns Faction, don't know enough to know whether that's a good or bad thing.

While I like my horizon 55 enough (feels kinda dead) and my voyager 53 (very fun Midwest deck) I haven’t really been excited about the brand. I can’t really pinpoint why but regardless, I’m happy they exist.

that’s where I bought it from! took advantage of the wild combo of crazy canadian exchange rates, megasales, and government payouts in the early pandemic days. paid something like $475 usd shipped for the board plus the last year of FC Ultra’s.
