Mammoth Mountain

Planning a trip with my girlfriend for some spring riding at Mammoth over Easter week (April 12-17).

Would be my first time at that mountain, and my girlfriend's second riding trip ever.

Any fun spots to look for at the mountain?

I've seen that the spring park there is a big thing, but I'm not a park rider, although I'm considering getting a day or two of lessons to hone some of the basics.

Outside of that, places to eat at or grab a drink in town? Activities for our rest day?

And is June Mountain worth a visit that time of the year, or should we stick to Mammoth?

Cheers!

Also, any shops in town that do rentals? My gf needs to rent boots, board, and bindings.

Wave Rave is the only one I know of, but I asked and their rentals are first come, first served, and start at $55/day, which seems expensive and I prefer to reserve, if possible.

Ive rented at Kittredge and theyre pretty good too. They are right across the street from wave rave.

Mammoth usually shuts down a lot of operations at Easter, but you should still be good for all mountain access when youre there. June should still be open at that time too and its a fun place to ride, usually pretty empty. If the roads are clear, should only take you 20 mins to get to from mammoth.

Johns pizza works is a good pizza spot, Robertos happy hour for cheap(er) tacos and magaritas.

If the 12th is a riding day for you, I say head to June, as it's their last day of the season. Easy drive from Mammoth, and it's a good vibe. Very mom and pop feel. Lifts are kinda slow, but lift lines are nonexistent, and there's some fun terrain on the back side.

At Mammoth, I really like the chair 12, 13, 14 area in the Spring, especially if you're not going to be spending time in the park. It's not out of the question that you'll get snow in April either, in which case the above mentioned lifts would still be my priority.

Green Room, FKA P3, also does rentals.

Dining options in Mammoth, though plentiful, I think are generally mid. For nice food the Mammoth Rock Brasserie (upstairs in the bowling alley of all places) and The Mogul (old school, steaks), are good. For more chill, Liberty Sports Bar & Grill is surprisingly good.

Mammoth in the Spring is the shit. Have fun!

Update: actually June just sent out an update an hour ago that they've moved their closing date back to 4/20. Definitely worth spending a day there in that case.
