2024/25 winter forecast - websites

Post by Oldhead »

Where do you guys get your winter forecast? I like to start looking at the weather about a month before a trip to a specific region.
NOAA:
Expect a La Niña pattern to dominate the winter of 2024-2025, bringing typical La Niña impacts. The Pacific Northwest and Great Lakes regions are forecasted to receive above-normal snowfall, making them prime destinations for skiing. Conversely, the southern tier of the U.S., including southern California to the Southeast, is expected to see below-normal precipitation, resulting in less snowfall. This pattern will likely persist through winter and early spring, favoring the Pacific Northwest for the most consistent snow.

Like an yeti shaman conjuring up visions I put on all my winter snow gear, go outside, eat some mushrooms and just feel the vibrations of the weather patterns wash over me, I stare at the clouds and imagine the lines I'd ride on each one, and then I pay attention to the bird chirps and listen to what they tell me...

It doesn't tell me the winter forecast, but it's a pretty good time anyhow.

Looks like a ton of mountains got a nice white blanket. We got a bit at the top of Eaglecrest (~2600ft?) But we have snow down to sea level forecast over the next couple days. It won't stick, but that's exciting.

All the webcams showed at least a dusting in the Cascade resorts, and the road to Artist Point on Baker is closed for the winter. This is a tough time of year, but I am so ready to snowboard.

powderbuoy for utah and JH <- he's pretty good two weeks ahead
braatencast and snowology for east coast <- good 1 week ahead, I think east coast makes it hard to reliable forecast that far ahead

I'm a big fan of Open Snow, but that's because my local mountains are Tahoe and BA is a big weather nerd and I love reading his reports.
