I have a pair of shoes HPS Districts

they are indeed soft, prob the softest bindings on the market, but in a good way (for me at least) - I only use the on my pow decks

Damn @RadDad801 , that a serious break. I cracked a non critical part of a union base once but never seen something that catastrophic.

I've talked about this incident with a Jones sample but never publicized the photos. EZL's footprint is pretty small and it's been 3 years, so I'm not as worried about people getting the wrong idea any more. For the record, Nidecker Group / Jones took care of me (including at one point JJ himself lol), they fixed the issue in production before I even flagged it, and I still exclusively ride Jones / fka NOW bindings.

I was cruising around on a dope sunny January day at Mammoth. Pop a casual ollie cruising a blue groomer at decent speed, my rear foot goes all loopy on the landing, g into a controlled butt slide. Look down at my binding, I'm confused because my foot's still in the base tray and my ratchets are still in place, I tap the binding and realize my heelcup exploded around my boot. Had to one-foot my way down 1500+ ft of vert, SUPER lucky this didn't happen in consequential terrain.

You can see in the first photo the crack propagates off a cored out section of the heelcup. This was a sample for the first year of Hanger 3.0, so I'm not sure if this is was a shortcut specifically for samples or a design flaw they fixed. In any case, that section's filled in on the first year production model I got on warranty.

I can't upload video here, but I have a clip where I literally hinge the broken-off section of heelcup up and down like a lever, highback and all.

So, according to BoardSource, and confirmed in the Jones 26 catalog, the Mercury will have a carbon injected hanger:

https://www.boardsportsource.com/jones- ... 6-preview/

https://www.hasco.co.jp/wp-content/uplo ... atalog.pdf

I was waiting Jones to update the ratchets to snag another Mercury pair (right now I only have a pair of bindings), but I'm not sure I want carbon in my bindings. I wouldn't want more response, a more sharp binding. Also the 26 one is canted, which I don't care.

Maybe I can buy a current pair, and upgrade the ratchets later...

decisions, decisions

I'd personally buy them now, but I hate carbon in my bindings.

I think the carbon just improves it, doesn't necessarily make it stiffer, just prevents the heelcup, hinge and sidewalls from bending. Straps, bushings, footpad and highback decides how stiff it is.

Well after several resort days and now a full cat trip, I can say without a doubt that these bindings are absolutely incredible.

I shit on Union for years and had shit experiences with them in the past. It was complete luck that I had to try a set.

I'm sold, and I have absolutely zero foot pain and or cramping.

Union mini disc FTW. Saw a video yesterday showing the difference in lateral flex between Union's standard vs mini discs. Cool to see:

I had hesitations about the mini disc being too flexy or soft, but have not found that to be the case at all, and the micro adjustments you can get with the mini disc is insane.

@pow_hnd So you're running Falcor base with Strata highbacks? Good looking!

I'm due to update straps on my Asymbol bindings. Strap tech has come a long way since then and they are otherwise perfectly functional and effectively an Atlas (one generation old), and Force Classic.
