Maybe I missed it, but what's the deal with forward lean and the highback system? On my drives, my rear highback is maxed.
sorry, i don't understand the question. are you asking about FASE or NOW., and what exactly is your query about?
Sorry, I'll rephrase. I like forward lean, and I use a good amount on my rear binding in particular. Because of the fase design that allows the highback to fold backward, is there any limitation to how much forward lean you can use, compared to a normal binding?

no. not all the models have the same min & max forward lean though. this is up to the brand.

i got a pair of branded pre-production jones first, so riding then. it does have a supportive HB, which I like personally. i also just got some rome and bataleons. have played around with then, but because it's summer here, i haven't ridden them. also, my jones has 32 straps, as i guessed the jones ones were not ready as this was 5 months ago.

So none of these have skate tech? Not that I really cared for it but that was really the main differentiator for Now, but I guess with rolling them into Yes they didn’t see a lot of weight in that brand alone

Before working on FASE - did you have a preferred binding?

There's an Italian YouTube photographer that did a video with a local burton pro about why pro's didn't use step on if not only for filming commercials

and he showed, like many others did, that you can go big in the park and on the rails ( I guessing works out good also in the pipe) like a normal bindings but.....you have to relearn al the muscle memory because of the different feelings and reactions, so nobody that it's used to film or compete with normal bindings have the time and the will to do so, that's what he said, you can find the video on YouTube, it's in Italian, Roby Bragotto.
I bet this + superstition are large parts-- Mark Sollors talks about superstition + ritual keeping him on straps in some of his YouTube vids-- but I suspect a big issue that no one wants to be the Pro Who Rides Step Ons getting clowned on by everyone else. Group think is a powerful thing.
I'm suddenly thinking of Andy Anderson. Only skate pro I'm aware of who always wears a helmet outside of competetion and does some straight up weirdo shit that seems to piss of "traditionalists", but just does his thing regardless of majority opinion. And I don't even like Anderson's style per se, but I respect he just fucking does his own thing regardless of haters.
Do you really think that pro riders are ashamed to show that they're riding stepons? I don't know, seems weird to me, I mean, I don't really care what others think what I'm riding, I more worried about what other thinks about the way I'm riding

because I really put all of my efforts every time I go to the hills to improve and to do things with my personal style, but that's a different story and I'm not a pro.
I do believe that there's the habit, if you are a pro who grow up riding strap bindings for years and years I think it will be a struggle to get used to stepons, and then, let's face it, a pro doesn't need stepons, makes no big difference if they get fast in and out of the binding, who cares?
Maybe it will have some points having stepons on boardercross, or even in the freeride competition, they really give you more precision and finesse about turning and edge control, but in freestyle, except some one footed tricks, I can't see a vantage above strap bindings.

NOW drive was my go to binding. i changed the toe strap to the jones one eventually. i also have in my quiver, 2 strap burton and rome as well as supermatic's and step-on.

I played with the Jones Mercury FASE in my local shop today. Seems solid. It’s a shame they (or one of the FASE offerings) doesn’t have Skate-tech but that might happen in the future.
Observations: very hard and stiff ankle strap. I’ve enjoyed the Burton hard plastic straps but not many of the others of that type are comfortable for me. I run my older Rome foam straps. I just like a cushy strap so not necessarily an issue for others.
Forward lean has three notches, easy to adjust. No high back rotation though. I like to have it but appreciate that most don’t bother about it. High back shaping and flex can also make this a non-issue.
Footbed a bit like some of the high end Union bindings which are hard but with softer material underneath. FASE aside, it felt like a pretty responsive binding all over.
The heelcup obviously protrudes a little more than a regular binding, maybe 1cm or so. Nowhere near as much extra heelcup material as a Supermatic binding

i have not seen the jones ankle strap yet, but have ridden the 32 straps, which i'm told are not as stiff as the jones. also the bataleon and rome FASE strap feel the same or very slightly softer compare to 32.
