OUTERWEAR
Re: OUTERWEAR
For me Volcom has the best fit for a tall lean person. The fit is more tailored looking but doesn't have the tight fit ski look.
I have tried to like Burton outerwear over the years, but the boxy fit look ridiculous on me.
Over the last couple years, the prices have gone kinda bananas.
Besides Owner Operator who makes snowboard specific outerwear in the US?

Re: OUTERWEAR
For sure. I've been to a couple of their retail locations and they're always dead. And I've only ever seen their lower end 10k outerwear in there.benjinyc wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 10:11 am I imagine the profit margins for selling board shorts and t-shirts in shopping malls is bigger than technical backcountry shells, esp when most of that market has been taken by brands with a reputation in that space?
I never gave volcom snow outerwear a look until I joined this group, and even then I'd prob pick arcteryx, Patagonia, norrona etc over it for a myriad of reasons... one is that these companies actually have a physical retail location where I live
New AK is pretty slim... so much so that I don't fit into the Large anymore. You should check it out.Oldhead wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 10:26 am For me Volcom has the best fit for a tall lean person. The fit is more tailored looking but doesn't have the tight fit ski look.

Re: OUTERWEAR
Agreed, my L lasted forever and had a great longer fit. Should've kept it.scrub wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 10:17 am It’s a shame Volcom is losing their shit. I just tech washed and re proofed my Volcom L jacket yesterday and realized there isn’t a mark on it after 100 or so days, outerwear is the one thing I usually beat up.

I think they are the only one that actually manufactures their outerwear in the USOldhead wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 10:26 am Besides Owner Operator who makes snowboard specific outerwear in the US?

Everyone wears shorts, shirts, and whatnot. Even if they don't surf The market is magnitudes larger than performance snow gear. You can sell a bazillion tanktops and hey dood knockoffs with volcom on em to beach tourists, and if youre lucky maybe 100 Jamie lynn wizard onsies.

Re: OUTERWEAR
Yeah, but they have multiple brands already associated with that stuff and to an even greater degree than Volcom. I see 100 Billabong, Quik, and RVCA shirts/boardies for 1 Volcom.C.Fuzzy wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 10:42 am Everyone wears shorts, shirts, and whatnot. Re: OUTERWEAR
maybe Volcom leaving the outerwear game will open Zip Tech back up for more companies to use, that's their best feature, IMO
Re: OUTERWEAR
Yeah. And they're probably selling 100 shirts of those other brands for every 1 volcom. So... in corporate speak you create synergy with your other brands and just duplicate the process. You eliminate the " inefficiencies" aka the processes or categories that are out of the normal businesses. So get rid of the snow and specialty shit, consolidate to surf and sell fast fashion quality outlet shit in bulk. Maybe. What do I know.eleveneightnate wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 10:59 amYeah, but they have multiple brands already associated with that stuff and to an even greater degree than Volcom. Cool. NF makes pretty good, if a bit skier and boring, stuff.Jean77 wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 4:38 am Saw this on Instagram, seems the Volcom x Baldface collab has come to and end.
Now it's Northface again. Never tried Northface snowboard outerwear so can't say anything positive/negative about it.
