The boot thread
Re: The boot thread
I picked up a pair of Rome Libertine Pro's this year. They are pretty comfortable, but after riding for a short time, my toes go numb. I have weird feet, high arch, high instep, mid wide, high ankle bones, etc. I use a pair of Sidas high arch insoles for support and decided to take them out last time I rode. It freed up some room for my toes to move around and didn't really cause me much discomfort in my arch area. I don't love the idea of running a boot with no insole, so I thought about cutting my Sidas insoles just in front of the arch area. But before I do that, I figured I would put this out there to see if anyone has some other thoughts. I did heat mold them at home and added some extra foam on top of my instep to try to make room there, but did not have any toe caps. I suppose picking some up may be worth a shot and re-molding the?

Come to SLC and you can try on every single brand made in every size in one stop.jclinares wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 7:41 am Well, I just said "fuck it" and ordered 3 different pairs of boots to try at shops in Seattle next month. I refuse to go to Baker with rental boots
Nidecker Kita 9.5
Ride Insano 10
K2 Thraxis 9.5
I'm fairly confident at least one will fit me well. I tried the size 10 Kitas before, and they felt good but a little too big. Tried other, softer, Ride and K2 boots in those sizes, and they seemed to fit me well, too. I'm just going to choose the best fit from those three, and call it a day.
Wish me luck![]()

Try some of the Smartwool zero cushion socks (or an equivalent), I was amazed at how much room I gained and it definitely relieved some pressure with my boots this season.RadDad801 wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 8:33 am I picked up a pair of Rome Libertine Pro's this year. Also you can make toe caps by cutting up a pair of old socks and putting them over your toe when heat molding.
The Superfeet thin snow insoles have also worked well for me this season, my Photons were really tight to begin with and all of theses helped get them comfy.
I really like the Burton Speed zone lacing now I am used to it.

This. Same thing happened when I switched to the Burton Ultralight socks. Freed up a surprising amount of space/pressure for me.scrub wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 12:07 pm Try some of the Smartwool zero cushion socks (or an equivalent), I was amazed at how much room I gained and it definitely relieved some pressure with my boots this season.

I have some Smartwool/Burton/Stance merino wool socks. All are pretty thin. I think some cut socks are going to just compress when heat molding and not really open up the liner much in the toe box. My Sidas insoles are 3mm thick in the toe area, so not super thick.scrub wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 12:07 pmTry some of the Smartwool zero cushion socks (or an equivalent), I was amazed at how much room I gained and it definitely relieved some pressure with my boots this season.RadDad801 wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 8:33 am I picked up a pair of Rome Libertine Pro's this year. If you like a stiffer boot you’re going to like those Thraxis. I mentioned it earlier, but I didn’t get great heel hold in the Kitas, otherwise I really liked them and they’re more of a medium stiffness, which is what I prefer.jclinares wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 7:41 am Well, I just said "fuck it" and ordered 3 different pairs of boots to try at shops in Seattle next month. The heel hold on the thraxis is unrea tho. I do wish it was a tad softer but I’m only 5 days in so hoping it breaks in a bit more. I’m pretty sure Matt Cummins has sung the praises of the Thraxis and his home mountain is Baker.
