I'm the opposite from you - very easy on gear, but I get twice as many days or more. I bet part of it is that you like a less baggy fit, which is going to reach a "stress point" more easily than a more baggy fit, but that's not to suggest you should change your fit preferences.

And my first set of [AK] pants (the Stagger) were pretty darn baggy. The circa 2015 Cyclic also bit roomier than current cut. The Freebird failures are probably related to being a bit trimmer, though. I can move perfectly well in them, but definitely more strain through the seat if I'm dragging them on corduroy.

Just wanted to add: I really wanted to like Trew. And they were comfy.

Whelp, got a set of 686 Dispatch bibs and Jones Shralpinists coming my way to try on. I'll probably try on the Norrøna Tamok, although I'll have to hunt a bit harder to source that one... Backcountry and Walmart (Moosejaw) got it, but I'd rather not give my money to either. Tahoe Sports Hub carries Norrøna, so perhaps I'll order from Moosejaw to try on and buy from the Hub if that's the one.

I think most likely it'll be one of these, or just get a replacement Freebird (or Cyclic) from Burton and size up to XL. I don't really like baggy fits, but I may just have too much ass for a Burton large.

I know nothing about snowmobile gear but may check these out. These are... ugly and boring, but I'm so very tired of replacing pants. I think I'm at... 9 warranty replacements lifetime in ~17 years on snow (5 [ak], 2 Homeschool, 1 Holden, 1 Salomon-era Bonfire). Most of those crapped out on me within 50 days on snow, a couple didn't make 20. "Navigating the world with violence indeed."

I'm almost the exact same size as you and my 2020 season beast bibs feel pretty loose on me in a medium. I can't imagine the cut has changed much in two seasons.

I'm not sure I'd buy them again, the ass wear in 60-80 days is disappointing

I was gonna suggest ski patroller pants. Not as burly as snowmobile, but still durable and rugged to meet the demands of their work. I have a pair Patagonia made, I think TNF, HH, also make some

Mine aren’t as thin or light as my AK freebird and Dakine 3L, but you can see why, the patrol pants I own have a lot of reinforcement (heels, crotch, seat)

Know any specific models offhand? Arc'teryx makes one, but they only sell it to guides and patrollers. I nabbed a TNF one years and it was a great fit and built burly... but returned it because it inexplicably didn't have any vents. Not like patrollers do any high intensity work that might work up a sweat and necessitate dumping heat.

A new pair of 686 bibs arrived at the house here for my 16 year old yesterday. They’re the Smarty, so infiDRY instead of Gore. This’ll be the first 686 product to roll through my family. I’ve gotta say, I’m very impressed with the overall build quality and feel of the bibs. Definitely makes me curious about their Gore options. He absolutely destroyed his Volcom gore pants last season. First day out riding in the 686’s today and he came home very excited about them.
