I would say it's very similar to the AK457 Guide jacket fabric, if you're familiar with that.
Would you say there was anything special about it or just a burton money grab?
I don’t know if I’d say there was anything particularly special about the jacket, but that doesn’t mean shit. Any jacket that is 3L Gore-Pro is gonna cost that much no matter who is selling it.

Overall I’d say it’s a great jacket with some serious venting. To me it’s not special, I don’t ever split uphill with my jacket on, so the venting doesn’t mean shit to me, to others though, it could be huge.

In the end it’s still AK with a lifetime warranty and still 3L Gore-Pro. So if it looks good to you then it’s great.

I am a AK aficionado, I’d buy that jacket for sure if had the need for a new jacket and there was a color-way I liked, but I don’t have the need as of now.

I myself wouldn’t buy the current incarnation of the Hover jacket or bibs. In my experience the Gore-Stretch wets out faster/easier than Gore Nylon.

I’d assume because the stretch capability adds surface area that can trap moisture as it expands/stretches and then when it contracts traps moisture and presses it into the fabric, thus hurrying along getting to the wet point.

Not sure if that’s the reason, but my experience has been the stretch fabric wets out much quicker/easier no matter how much you DWR it.
Sweet thanks for all the info, appreciate it!

The application of the new DWR's doesn't really allow the DWR to encapsulate the entire fibre on stretch jackets since its done on the fabric while its relaxed rather than stretched out.

Stretch Gore definitely wets out more quickly, but I do generally find it more comfortable. I guess I could use some tailoring.

Anyone want to spray some recs my way?

Looking for a stretch jacket with 20/20k+ minimum waterproofing/breathability. Fine with non gtx materials.

Wants in order of importance:
Stretch fabric
Forearm pass pocket
Dual zip pit zips
Dual zip main zip
Internal dump pocket
External Chest pockets
Removeable or no powder skirt
Hand warmer pockets

Was looking at the new guch stretch jacket and also the Beringia St Elias (would be perfect but has a shoulder pocket instead of a forearm pass pocket).

I just snagged the Dakine Sender on Amazon for $89 that has most of that minus the removable powder skirt and true hand warmer pockets. Page 49 of the deals thread. Pretty insane deal, I originally ordered the orange and just grabbed another in green, there's also light blue and black.

4-way stretch 20k/20k
forearm pass pocket
two-way main and pit zippers
big internal dump pocket
double external chest pockets
two front lower pockets (no side access)
recco
pow skirt doesn't have snaps, I've never had a jacket with that style in it before
probably the tallest neck/collar/hood I've had in a jacket before
etc

is EL pro or anti powder skirt? after migrating to bibs years ago, I find them annoying.

With ziptech, all day. All the snow protection, but doesn't feel like anything, and can't move. With no zip, they're meh, but I still like it more than wearing bibs.

If/when I ever have non volcom gear, I'm adding my own zipper.

I will 100% wear a skirt to get some powder. Crop top. Body suit. Knee high boots. idc. bring it on

I’m using bibs most of the time, so I’m usually good without the skirt. If it’s deep or blowing, I’ll do up the ZipTech.
