Set up in/out of Niseko by some Ozzie founder(s) - the guy(s) from Rhytm Snowsports. So at least arguable whether that counts as Japanese or not...

Initially pushed a throwback/purist/traditional leather glove design language trying to appeal to the (wannabe) surf/snowsurf/Gentem crowd. More recently they have been leaning into the faux-Japanese aesthetic a lot (think Weston Japow, Capita Kazu, etc), especially in their collabs.

Not sure whether Oyuki was part of the deal for Rhythm by Evo, but I suspect so.

Oyuki is not really cringe in Japanese, but more lame/meh. Actually in Japanese they use 攻めろ大雪 (attack or charge big/heavy snow) which is marginally better.

For those not familiar with the Japan scene:
Rhythm was started by a couple of Ozzies in early 2000s, when all the local shops were tiny and fragmented independent businesses. Thye firmly targeted the international crowd (especially the upscale one) and built scale quickly. Now Rhythm is by far the largest (premium) B&M retail and rental operation in Japan, dominating the market in Niseko, Hakuba and Furano.
They have done some good things for the industry (efficient rental business with good service, very good tuning/waxing/repair shop, decent (premium) product selection for retail) and they have tried to integrate with the community (in-shop coffee and booze, movie productions and screening, etc) - but again mostly targeting the international clientele and not very grassroots/core at all (although to be fair, Matt worked with a lot of local riders and skiers for Oyuki and some of the video productions).
Sold out to Evo a couple of years ago.

The two founders are a bit polarizing or at least an acquired taste. Both skiers (I believe one of them also rides) and one is a rampant climate change denier.

Has anyone bought or tried on the Burton Acamar jacket, does it fit the same as a hover or a cyclic?

How would you compare the material to the hover goretex pro?

I would say it's very similar to the AK457 Guide jacket fabric, if you're familiar with that.

Would you say there was anything special about it or just a burton money grab?

I don’t know if I’d say there was anything particularly special about the jacket, but that doesn’t mean shit. Any jacket that is 3L Gore-Pro is gonna cost that much no matter who is selling it.

Overall I’d say it’s a great jacket with some serious venting. To me it’s not special, I don’t ever split uphill with my jacket on, so the venting doesn’t mean shit to me, to others though, it could be huge.

In the end it’s still AK with a lifetime warranty and still 3L Gore-Pro. So if it looks good to you then it’s great.

I am a AK aficionado, I’d buy that jacket for sure if had the need for a new jacket and there was a color-way I liked, but I don’t have the need as of now.

I myself wouldn’t buy the current incarnation of the Hover jacket or bibs. In my experience the Gore-Stretch wets out faster/easier than Gore Nylon.

I’d assume because the stretch capability adds surface area that can trap moisture as it expands/stretches and then when it contracts traps moisture and presses it into the fabric, thus hurrying along getting to the wet point.

Not sure if that’s the reason, but my experience has been the stretch fabric wets out much quicker/easier no matter how much you DWR it.
