I had Northwaves way back in the Kevin Jones days, no doubt that Italians know how to make footwear. These Decades are tempting, does anyone know how these fit say compared to a Burton boot?
I tend to need a boot with some room in the forefoot, the SLX in Burton US 9 fit me perfectly. I was an 8.5 in Addidas Tactical and these fit me perfectly too.
Yesterday I was doing a A/B (A on one foot & B on the other) comparison with 3 different boots (Northwave Domain, B Photon, Vans Verse) for funsies and the Northwave and B were more similar feeling that the Vans. The most notable difference between them imo was that the B had more heel drop than the Northwave (but it's a different model than what you're looking at, so my experience with the domain may not be applicable. The next biggest difference was that the Northwave had a tighter upper, especially at the calf. Actually, I'm kinda sus on the Photon because of how much flex it had in the upper and how loose it felt at the calf.
On the otherhand, the verse was so overly stiff it seemed to create a pressure point on the top of the tongue when it flexed. Perhaps too stiff for me. Vans maybe just don't fit my feet though. I keep trying and it's pretty consistent that they give me a pressure point somewhere regardless of model. IDK that everyone has that issue with them though bc a lot of folks like em, I think. Heel hold was on point though...10/10 for that. But the zipper gusset on the laces and the stiffness of the boot make it rather annoying to get on and off.
So...
Stiffness (10 being stiff). Vans = 10, Northwave = 7, Burton = 5
Heel hold (10 being best): Vans =10, Northwave = 7, Burton = 7
Ease on / off (10 being... erm, you get it) Vans = 3 (boa) , Northwave = 9 (speed lace) , Burton = 8 (boa)
Comfort is more relative to me and my feet so idk: wahtever man. ymmv. But the Vans were not great for me as mentioned above and I tried adjusting the tongue and stiffener inserts and inner lace a few times, without too much difference. I didn't keep them on very long. The other two I walked around in for probably close to an hour without issue.
