I wonder why Burton only had their Kendo StepOn boot for one season, it was the only regular lace boot. I mean I can guess why, but still.
Have to disagree. As someone who rode straps for many years and now the step on system for five seasons, I have had less binding failures in step ons than traditional bindings. There are still failure points, but there is less of them.Msteff wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 8:15 am As someone who does not ride step ons (Burton boots do not work for me) take this opinion with a grain of salt, but many of these issues seem to be inherent in a highly complex highly designed piece of true machinery vs. the relatively simple foot clamps we have had for the last forty years. It just seems like that is an inherent part of risk/part of riding them, sure they are more convenient, sure they may perform better but there are also more parts and therefore more potential issues.
The majority of people in my orbit that still ride laces are dedicated park/freestyle riders (think jib line not jump line). They are also the demographic that probably would have a legitimate reason to prefer straps over step on (you can have a much looser setup).benjinyc wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 10:45 am I wonder why Burton only had their Kendo StepOn boot for one season, it was the only regular lace boot. Always exceptions to the rule, but the majority of people out there don't want laces anymore. They are the most customizable setup by far, but most people just don't want them.scrub wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 12:14 pm I’m an old guy not a jib guy and I love laces. In fact I found a set of NOS Kendo in my size that I really want but can’t try on and I’m weighing that with buying a new pair of TM2 or a set of Vans High Country which I can try on.
