What do you guys prefer? Malavita or Genesis and why?
I rarely ride stock bindings but in my experience:
Baseplates are the same.
Genesis ankle straps are great.
Malavita leather straps are amazing.
Malavita high backs are great.
I am intrigued by the rumor of Burton dropping the Malavita and keeping the Genesis. It seems that both from the team and on the hill Cartel and Malavita are the bindings of choice.
I wouldn't say the Malavita is the top-tier binding, it is just popular because it is comfortable and and works with a variety of boards, The X base is the top tier but it is stiffer than most people want/need, same with whatever the Mystery board is for the season.
For boards, I see a lot of people riding the Custom, Hometown Hero, and Process.

fat middle age men still need Genesis?
Hey now, I have two sets of Genesis!
Production cost has to be the answer since they share a base plate, which comes down to the high back, and the ankle strap which is shared with the X Base and Hitchhiker (a Malavita with Genesis straps would be my preference) I wonder how the process/materials for the highbacks differ enough for the saving?
I honestly don't know why the product line isn't: Mission, Malavita, Cartel X, X Base, and get rid of the Cartel and Genesis. But hey, I'm just an old guy on the internet.

(Genesis line ^).
And totally agree with the binding lineup mentioned, esp with the overlap between Vitas, Cartels & Genesis. Vitas are the most seen in the wild out of the those 3 (from what I've seen & heard), so why take it out .

If Burton would round off those heelside outer corners of their bindings, I’d probably go back to riding them indefinitely. I’ve been thinking about buying a used pair and taking a dremel to them for fun.

The only thing that holds me from Step-on's are Burton boots. Every year they get more and more softer. No innovation, just using more cheap materials and cuting costs. From my go-to boots new Ion's are almost as mushy as old pair of Rulers 6 season old. Two years in row I had sprained ankle. If Salomon or 32 jump on Step-on wagon I will not hesitate to try.
Burton feels like they're on a pretty direct path into a casual rider brand. Which they have always made be a point of their offering, but have also made sure not to ignore the more serious/seasoned/core/high end riders. But more and more as they put more and more effort and $$ into Step-On the more they seem to be caring less and less for the "core" riders.
B has lost its high-end leadership in Europe. That point has been won by other brands.. Now you see few riders with new high-end B in the resorts... Or maybe there aren't many high-end boards sold anymore. And it is also true that every time I see riders with less level and more casual riders with rental boards.
B sales have dropped a lot. and they are in fewer and fewer stores... perhaps they have lost focus on making great boards and focus on gaining lost sales., perhaps they already sell more step ons than boards...
The current Burton Custom/X has a much less aggressive shape. The contact points seem designed to release easily and not catch.
Between multiple toe strap buckle issues, dropping JG and Terje, and dropping the vita’s that was the beginning of the end for my love affair with Burton. Still very much love some of their boards and appreciate the innovation, and continued tech development but I’m just not the Burton nationalist that I used to be
