I hadn’t thought of this before, but now it has me questioning if I’d like them at all. Lateral mobility is something I really look for in a binding.

like the entire binding flexing with your legs? or just not having the highback in the way?

I guess both to some degree, I really like Shadowfit and asym Romes. Reflex isn’t bad, but I’m not sure if I’d like it while having my boot clipped into the highback. I loved my old Cartels because of the flat/out of the way highback + reflex combo.

If you’re a Shadowfit guy I’m confident you’d hate Step Ons. Maaaaaybe with the new boots that have that tweak section on the medial side. But if you like lateral mobility, the standards are not the play.

I just use Burton Missions and rotate the highbacks. Cheap, flexy, comfortable, bombroof. Anything fancy just gives me anxiety.

By putting boot into step on and check, you can see that there is huge lateral mobility, much more than in any normal high-end bindings, because no highback nor heel contact point limit it at all, only toe clips limit lateral mobility. And if I understood correctly from marketing material for next season model – also toeclip lateral mobility will be increased, bad news for me, because I like original stepons more than current, because toeclips connection was stiffer in original… :)

The only thing that holds me from Step-on's are Burton boots. Every year they get more and more softer. No innovation, just using more cheap materials and cuting costs. From my go-to boots new Ion's are almost as mushy as old pair of Rulers 6 season old. Two years in row I had sprained ankle. If Salomon or 32 jump on Step-on wagon I will not hesitate to try.

Yeahhhh I think I'll scratch Step Ons off the list for now.

I lost interest in step ons after discovering the vans infuse.. and skate tech. But… there is always a sound there... in the distance... 🤔🤔
