With Swiss companies, like with Jersey and Cayman and so on, you can't always know what kinda money is behind, but Nidecker finally seems to come into it's own in snowboarding, with their brand, even if it's one of the oldest. I feel like they have had some identity issues over the years, lotsa satellite brands. Stuff like pro models and participation in worldwide events, community building and so on lately shows promise.

Still curious about the whole Sole Tech thing, could get ugly, but I think they managed Flow, Rome and Bataleon well enough. Might have dropped the ball on some Flow boots/boards stuff for awhile, but now they seem to do some good stuff with their own line.

Wonder what the connection between Nidecker, Salomon and Clew is, if it's direct collabs or mostly through a oem factory.

SprockingCrail wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2025 10:19 pm Nidecker is snowboarder owned and I think their boards ride really well so I back them. I also think I’m becoming a way bigger Rome fan now that I’ve been riding my Ravine Pro a bunch this season. It’s quality and so much fun.
I get it that acquisitions are tough to swallow, but at least they aren’t an investment firm.
I also dig what Yes and Jones (I know, unpopular here on ez) are doing.
Lol Aero lost its luster so quickly? 😉

How soft is it compared to Aero? Ravine shape has always looked fun to me but heard it's soft AF. Pro has piqued my interest past few seasons.
Still love the Aero, Ravine Pro is way stiffer than the Aero.

I’ve had a good time on my Ravine Select, it’s definitely one of my favorite Rome boards in recent memory. It’s not as stiff as I thought it would be, probably because I’m approaching the upper end of the 158’s recommended weight. I could easily daily it if I had to pick just one from my quiver.

It was featured on China's taobao.

I think there may be other new models if I look hard enough.

There was no mention of the Torstein Pro model.

Any info on the torstein pro model?
no Splitboards anymore from Capita?

To my knowledge the brothers didn’t “buy” Jones. They bankrolled them to get going. And I definitely dont remember for sure so correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t they also do that for Yes, Now, and Slash originally? If I do remember things accurately, regardless of your feelings towards those brands, they are helping rider founded brands get started. To me that’s even more “core” than just being one yourself. I don’t think you have to have a pro career in your history to be considered rider owned. I definitely claim Nidecker in that group.

The only Flow product I miss are the Darwin (but Flow killed that prior to Nidecker), Era, Verve, and Rush. All RC boards so who’s to say if they’d be around at this point anyway given the resurgence of camber.

Nidecker definitely has some ongoing stake in those companies. I don’t think they own them outright but they handle distribution and are generally plugged into .

I don’t fully know the details, but a buddy is a Nidecker Group employee in Truckee. All I know is he supports both YES and Jones (and previously NOW), and refers to both the Nidecker brothers and Jeremy Jones as his bosses. The brothers paid (or at least heavily subsidized) tuition for his Masters and Jeremy took him on a birthday touring trip.

The team is fully separate from Nidecker proper (Nidecker + Flow) and Low Pressure Studios (Bataleon + Rome, formerly Lobster). But no way they don’t have some major stake in YES if they can make the call to merge YES and Lobster together.

I don’t know enough to have a strong opinion on the Nidecker fam. Consolidation definitely makes me a bit uneasy, but they make good product and all else equal I’d rather my money go to them than XYZ private equity firm.

I know they have been at it for a long time, but I could tolerate them a lot better when they were operating in the shadows in relative anonymity.
I get ya. It's not that they've done anything egregiously shit... but there's a weird stink attached to what they've done with all the brands and it just seems off. But I could say that about almost every brand these days.

Except... um... nope...

Idk.
They've completely fucked over some pro skaters with the sole tech acquisition. And if you didn't know: skating>>>snowboarding. Now you know.

Sole Tech made the choice to sell, it wasn’t a hostile takeover lol.

Tell that to Tom Asta's kids or Penny's weed dealer.
