Kinda like what they did with the Megalight. Wonder if they changed specs and if the Ultra stays the same. The boa strap thing might be nice if it's connected to the rest of the upper, so there's a separate lower.
No more Ultra. They just merged them essentially. I don’t believe this will be hitting the $999 price, but does have the fancyness and now forged carbon in that nose window there. High expectations for sure.
From what I can tell from the info, the Nidecker version at least does have upper lacing and the strap on the strap BOA, and the lower is on the side dial. So still zonal. Not sure about the Bataleon. But from the promo images, looks to me like chicken legs might be at risk of bottoming out the strap with the Bataleon version.

I’m not sure if I’ll get hate for this, but I am so so done with Nidecker, their monopoly through acquisitions, and just what I perceive as their overall lameness. I really can’t stand them or how they operate and their products just scream ruroc wearer to me. I know they have been at it for a long time, but I could tolerate them a lot better when they were operating in the shadows in relative anonymity.

I get ya. It's not that they've done anything egregiously shit... but there's a weird stink attached to what they've done with all the brands and it just seems off. But I could say that about almost every brand these days.
I’ve had a couple boards from the Snowsurf line that were fine. The Yes boards I’ve ridden have been mostly fun but I got rid of most of them. Bataleon hasn’t been on my radar because I don’t often ride conditions that would benefit from 3d bases. The first-year Now IPO were fun at the time but the heelcup was too tight and I haven’t really cared to ride more recent Skate-Tech bindings. Thirtytwo boots have never really worked for me, but their Intuition liners were rad in the early 2000s. The Rome Agent was awesome 15 years ago and I still have my 158 somewhere. I’ve never owned a Jones product nor do I intend to.
I feel like I should have an overall opinion of Nidecker but I guess I really just don’t care. But It’s kinda weird that they haven’t acquired a single brand whose hardgoods I currently use.
I did wear éS Muskas in my basement today, however.
Nidecker is snowboarder owned and I think their boards ride really well so I back them. I also think I’m becoming a way bigger Rome fan now that I’ve been riding my Ravine Pro a bunch this season. It’s quality and so much fun.
I get it that acquisitions are tough to swallow, but at least they aren’t an investment firm.
I also dig what Yes and Jones (I know, unpopular here on ez) are doing.

Lol Aero lost its luster so quickly?
How soft is it compared to Aero? Ravine shape has always looked fun to me but heard it's soft AF. Pro has piqued my interest past few seasons.

I’ve never ridden an aero so I can’t compare it to that, but on a stand alone basis I would say the ravine is pretty noodlely. It’s definitely on the softer side of medium in my opinion. I would say it’s maybe slightly stiffer than an artifact in flex. I also notice the diamond shaping in the nose a lot on groomers, although it definitely does a good job funneling soft snow. I liked the ravine on low angle powder and trees, but other than that I’m not really that big a fan. I want to like it more than I do given how much everyone else seems to love it, but it’s just not a daily driver for me like it seems to be for others. With all that said I’ve got a 22/23 in a 155 ridden twice that I’d let go off for cheap if anyone is interested.
Edit for clarity: I’ve only ridden the ravine/have a ravine. I’ve never ridden the pro.

On the nidecker front, It just seems like they claim snowboarder backed, and sure the brothers that operate the company are sorta snowboarders in that they perform snowboarding activities. However, the only “actual snowboarder” (whatever that subjective qualifier completely made up in my own mind means) brands were purchased not created by nidecker. In the end nidecker seems like a company for people who go snowboarding whereas the brands they acquired were brands for snowboarders. I suppose it’s the same “core” argument that all the cranky old heads make. It would be okay if nidecker were passive investors in all of this but they’re not. They inexplicably spammed yes, lobster, and now together. And now they have cut the entire etneis skate team and booted Tom Asta off es as part of the sole tech acquisition.
