Hardgoods 23/24
Re: Hardgoods 23/24
I remember doc going off about them multiple times, swearing about how stupid they were, saying anyone who likes them is an idiot. But, that goes for just about everything he doesn't personally like Aaaanyway, to each their own!
Re: Hardgoods 23/24
I like the Volcom wrist Velcro elastic that allows you to run it around your thumb. Only works with low profile gloves/mitts though.
Re: Hardgoods 23/24
I’m down with wrist gaiters, but the Powder Grips take it to another level. No matter how far your arm extends the sleeve never pulls back. With gaiters, yes, it absolutely keeps the snow off your skin directly, but the sleeve can still pull back and you can get snow packed up in the sleeve. With the powder grip, it’s just not possible at all. Then unlike gaiters, if you don’t want to use the powder grip, it tucks up into the sleeve and has a Velcro patch that keeps it that way and you just have a normal sleeve and you honestly never even know the powder grips are there. It’s honestly best implementation I’ve ever used as far as keeping snow out of your sleeve, with the most versatilityeleveneightnate wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 11:37 amI love wrist gaiters. Most 686 jackets have them. I have baselayers with thumb holes but they're usually too thick and just not as nice as having them built into the jacket.

Big part of it for me is that I'm constantly taking my mitts off for filming. I adjust & leave the velcro cuff so it takes up the slack & is easy on/off, but isn't tightened down to create the seal. I don't like it that way in general anyway. Thumb loop is still easy, the gaiter just keeps me 100% sealed and I don't have to "do" anything when I put the mitt back on. I'd be down to try both… full seal, secured sleeve. Probably overkill, though.
On this note, is there anyone who doesn't like zip tech? Obviously most people don't have it, but how do we feel? I like volcom and their gear anyway, but almost don't even look at anything else because no zippy zip. Plain pow skirt never works for me when I actually need it, and the belt loop connection seems pretty useless. I think a patent/exclusive use is kinda lame..

Cosign, I got a freebie AK 3L and I ended up missing the powder grips on my previous (sold) AK jacket more than anything else. Newer isnt always better! I want them back. Please.pow_hnd wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 12:13 pmI’m down with wrist gaiters, but the Powder Grips take it to another level. No matter how far your arm extends the sleeve never pulls back. Please do! For direct feedback, I ride wearing either Hover Pro, Guide or Tusk jackets. The Tusk is fantastic in every way, super lightweight, has great features and fit. BUT... the sleeve cuffs are fucking huge, and depending on what type of gloves I'm wearing, I've had the sleeves slide up my forearms many times, which sucks in either wind or snow. Adding powder cuffs would resolve the issue easily, without adding any weight at all. I don't have any problems like that with Hover or Guide because they both have gaskets, which for me also work great.pow_hnd wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 10:09 am I may have to just bite the bullet and buy the Tusk jacket in that blue. Blue is my color.
I am set to be on a Baldface trip in about two weeks with some corporate B people... I will lobby hard for the Powder Grips to be on all the high end AK jackets.... doubt it will do any good, but I will beat it to death in the cat over the course of the trip.
I never understood Doc's freak out about powder cuffs, if you don't use them it's not like they're even in the way.

Powder Cuffs = Powder Grips in my babbling above. You guys know what I meant, I'm not up on my marketing terminology apparently.
Re: Hardgoods 23/24
Doc being a close-minded toxic asshole? I can't imagine...

I go bibs and don’t care much whether jacket has a powder skirt or no. Burton bibs and Volcom jacket now tho.Spenser wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 12:20 pm Big part of it for me is that I'm constantly taking my mitts off for filming. Wonder when Volcom got exclusive on the ziptech stuff? I had a set of Norrona with it like 20 years ago. Guess they maybe had to stop using it then. Haven’t looked at their stuff lately…
