Re: OUTERWEAR

I have a question on Goretex material.
I have a set of the Volcom gore Bibs and jacket. Ridden a few full days now in very wet rainy conditions and have yet to actually get wet. (Apart from a bit of dampness on my thermal sleeves at the wrist from it coming in at the cuff when getting gloves on and off during the day) very impressed by the water proofing.
I got my wife a set of burton goretex bibs…. They do nothing but get wet right through within an hour or 2.
What’s the deal? Just a poor quality version or is goretex not always the same?

a few factors, but also how is the DWR coating on the fabric? How often do you wash the goretex — it has to be washed periodically for the water repellency to do it's job.
  • Machine washing then drying your garment is the most effective way to restore the water repellency of your jackets and other outwear. Follow the wash instructions for your product, then line dry your garment, or tumble dry it on a warm, gentle cycle.
    • Once it’s dry, tumble dry your garment for a further 20 minutes—this will reactivate the durable water-repellent (DWR) treatment.
    • If you can’t tumble dry, iron the dry garment on gentle setting (warm, no steam) by placing a towel or cloth between the garment and the iron.
    • When the factory applied treatment can no longer be reactivated by washing and drying, apply a new water-repellent treatment—available as a pump-spray or a wash-in product. Following spray application, tumble dry your garment for 20 minutes.
    • Do not apply water repellency treatment (DWR) to GORE-TEX Active SHAKEDRY™ garments. To restore their water repellency, simply wash and dry these jackets following the manufacturer’s instructions.
    • Always check the manufacturer’s care instructions on the label of your outerwear before doing anything.

All pieces were new bought for this season. Daughter also has a set of burton goretex 2L bib and hers was fine just like mine. Although both our bibs seem to be a tougher feeing fabric than my wife’s set.

I scored some bomb proof Patagonia patroller uniform pants that are pretty indestructible.
My impression is 3L pants are MORE durable (in addition to more waterproof and more breathable). Main drawbacks are they’re less comfortable and much pricier.

There are more questions. Have you proven it’s coming through the material? Does she layer too much and it’s actually perspiration? Are there other ways moisture could get in that you’re not thinking of? Where is she feeling this happen, and how much is it really happening? As mentioned, it’s highly unlikely it’s coming through the material.

Beyond Medals dropped their outerwear line few days ago:

Offhand it looks kind of schlubby and cheap to me, but I'm not sure if that's just because of the weird HYPEBEAST streetwear photography style and general aesthetic they're going for. Maybe I'm just old.

You could get something like a Brynje Super Thermo as inner layer, then a regular merino wool shirt as midlayer. Very hot and very thin.

Absolutely love BM, but... did they just rebadge last years 32 line?
