Now I need the boots
In the end, curiosity got the better of me
We'll see if it ends up on the hardware podium or on a second-hand website

There are more differences with the other ESTs and Step Ons ones and the new design maybe is closer to skate tech.
In yellow I indicate the base of my Genesis/Diode. It doesn't matter which model. Any EST has this base or something similar. The plastic base is in contact with the board.
In the new EST Step Ons, in green I mark the front and rear lateral points that are in contact with the board, that are made of EVA rubber or something like that. These flexible points will have a behavior closer to skate tech and further from the rigid contact of the plastic base. In the middle, in blue, there is a rubber with another compound that is a piece perhaps with a lateral cushioning function too
The EST step on plastic base no longer touches the board. This means a different response to the step on re-flex, which is a very important evolution.
and I still have to wait three months to be able to test them⦠a third of a pregnancy

Maybe B liked skate tech?

first gen step on EST was flexing too much in the large sizes causing toe cleats to pop out, thatβs why larges were never available. the new padding absorbs that flex instead of the tray/clips.

My quiver, which needs downsizing, is sitting at 13 boards. I own 7 pairs of step on bindings (3 standard, 2 genesis and 1 x).
I have a buddy who purchased three pairs of the Genesis EST and his quiver consists of mostly Burton. I'm going to give them a try, but if the board feel / performance is a step above Re:Flex and non-channel boards... it's going to push me to buy my first burton (and Genesis EST).

Ahhhh. Thus why they've essentially minimalized the binding sides (lessening their ability to flex and distort the toe) and then decoupled the clips from the sides and making the clips more independent attached mostly at the base. The toe and heel padding furthering this too... but as pointed out, the pivot point of est with the toe and heel padding may create a 'skate tech' type of response...
but idk. Foam padding absorbs energy (thus creating less binding flex) so it may lack the ability to transfer it into the board the way Now does.
But... I'm intrigued.

Is it just me or is there way more plastic under foot now? Highlighted here in a lovely shade of pink. Kinda seems to defeat the purpose of EST? Now I haven't ridden them, and honestly hardly have any EST experience at all, but I'm wondering how similar it feels to the OG strap EST bindings.
