Hovercraft was a rip of the Gentemstick Mantaray

I think Chris Christensen confirmed it too

I recalled it had some legitimacy to it. I had wrote hovercraft too and then edited it out bc, the HC isn't really that unique of a shape imo. but yea.

Merge and call it Yes/No?

Yeah, Neil Hartman talked about how G-Remy was stoked on his Mantaray, and 9 months later Hovercraft came along, but this is nothing unique in snowboarding really.

I wouldn’t mind the boards if I liked them, but only the Frontier has been close for me, besides the wiggly nose.

I kinda like the concept of the Switchback bindings when they came along, like 10 years ago? Nice idea, meh result. Was fun to go to the boardshop and pick a separate base, footpad, straps and highback. Didn’t last long in shops though, since the bindings weren’t all that good. I returned mine for something else.

For a foot of your size there really is no benefit/difference from H2 to H3... H3 came out purely as a solution to deal with large footprint boots that were at the "in between" size range for their bindings.

I dont think Jones hides from it though, I recall on one of his live instagram feeds him saying Taro/Gentem was a major inspiration

he has seemed to find a market out east inadvertently though...most snowboard dads here seem to gravitate towards his decks

He’s been making out like he invented snow surf through some kind of rootsy epiphany somewhere between a beach in Cali and a chairlift in Tahoe. Totally disregarding that it has been the core of snowboarding in Japan since day one. I believe the correct term is cultural appropriation.

Every other brand I can think of that has copied the Japanese style of shaping has at least given the board a name and/or graphics that acknowledge where it came from.
