The Official quiver thread
Re: The Official quiver thread
I get it. Guess it depends on the particular "long" board and the rider, not to mention the strokes & folks. Maybe I'll be able to get in on a cat seat in the future and we'll shake it out

No idea tbh. I love my taka but would probably want something a bit stiffer för steeper terrain.
Sooo a stiffer taka Is my answer :p

If I try another, it'll be the dart.SJF_NH wrote: Mon Mar 03, 2025 9:25 pm I''m going with the Dart too, mine's only a 156 but I've never been able to sink it, even in tits deep. The crazy thing about the Dart is that it still carves, despite the powderific shape.

it'd probably be the Annex or Taka for me, both in 162

Think I'd want a Moss Long, but probably not because I don't have one and it's a bit unpractical traveling with the length. Those boards shouldn't make you that tired really, pretty soft and hinged at the middle. Minilong feels kinda short on the tail for that deep.
Possibly the Moss U5 EX, if I had one.
Would probably end up with a Korua Ubernose and Burton Modfish with X-base est bindings, both under 160. Maybe not for up there, but for rest of the trip. And maybe a split.

Slash is doing custom orders now (since when?) — always wondered why this concept has taken off more, it's common with surfboards. AFAIK, there's just a handful of companies that offer this
Slash By Gigi, Slash By You. Presenting a new collaboration with Innsbruck-based snowboard engineer Benoit Caillaud, allowing you to have your very own Slash Snowboard shaped to your specs, hand in hand with Gigi.

Re: The Official quiver thread
I would speculate that the vast majority of folks pick boards based on marketing and graphics, and have little knowledge of the specs they ride other than the length and directional/twin. And then after that, even if they do know what specs they like there's typically something already being produced that is close to what someone wants, and much cheaper that bespoke.
The pool of folks that have very very specific spec requirements and where they're willing to pay that additional cost, for a board that has little to no resale value due to being unknown, has to be pretty tiny.
I would theorize that folks would be more inclined to want their own design on an otherwise already made production shape... something like mervin had done a while back.
But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe there's a good sized pool of folks who have an idea for a shape and are willing to pay to prototype it.

Most "custom" shapes are very locked in, as in you can change at best waist width, length, glassing and color/graphics, and it's either costly or they just don't do full custom.
Prototyping for a brand varies alot, usually costs alot, you have to order a number of boards of each. Nobile is great here, but don't think they do single customs for consumers either.

I think that service may be Euro-only? I clicked the link from my email, but was re-directed to the US store, where I couldn't find the link anymore.benjinyc wrote: Wed Mar 05, 2025 6:34 am Slash is doing custom orders now (since when?) — always wondered why this concept has taken off more, it's common with surfboards. or maybe you can still do it, but will have to pay more for shipping plus whatever the extra import fees are these days.
