I just added that to my kit because of your post. Amazon same day.
Mine—going on 7 years duty—is permanently attached to my bibs's hip belt loop on a heavy-duty retractable zip-line thingy.
( "KEY-BAK-Retractable-Carabiner-Holder-Retraction" on Amzn )

Use it absolutely every single day i am out there. Amazing product.

I picked up on them years ago from a friend who did a lot of ski mountaineering stuff, and they all used them. I also have a little green scotch pad for brushing my base before I ride, to take off any tiny glue or ice remnants. It's the little things 💖

I sent that boot thing to my Swedish friend and here is what he had to say:

Well that’s just Jonte being Jonte I guess, he’s resoled at least one pair of my Lundhags boots!
(He’s also an ex international boarder cross pro…)

I know this is a true one-off project he wanted to make for a couple of years. He’s tried hardboots for split boarding but didn’t like the ride feel, so he set out to build his own soft boots with fittings for tech bindings in the toes. To reap all the benefits of not having to strap into your bindings on the way up!

Translated for your pleasure:
"Jonte @jontegrundelius is a shoemaker at @lundhags but also a die-hard snowboard guy with a past as an international boardercross rider. A fairly natural challenge for Jonte in shoemaking was to build his own snowboard boot, completely custom made. The result was a very stylish and functional snowboard boot in Lundhags packaging. In a single existing pair.

It is built like a regular Lundhags shell boot that I combined and built together with an old snowboard boot, says Jonte. It is built with the same technology as a regular Lundhags three-layer boot but with a slightly stiffer padding material that is combined with some parts from an old snowboard boot.
Jonte has stiffened the cellular rubber bottom and used burlap to make it harder (that is usually the material that Lundhags uses in the back covers of the single-layer boots.) He has also built the boot with a soft binding sole to get a little softer cushioning for jumps and landings with the board. The shoe also has a completely new sole that will not be on the market until Tived, a completely new boot that will come in the spring…!

Another unique thing about the shoe is that it is built for tech bindings so that you can easily walk without having to fiddle with the binding itself.

Yes, that was one of the driving forces, to get a snowboard boot that works well for a tech binding, that doesn’t exist today. The other reason was to get a boot that lasts, and that can maintain its stiffness longer, because regular snowboard boots are unfortunately not made to last. And with real leather, it becomes a really good boot with all the built-in properties of leather.
Jonte has been thinking about the project for two years and has put at least 40 hours into the shoes and a lot of modifications. So, it won’t be a product in Lundhags’ range for a while! Jonte will probably continue to have completely unique snowboard boots."

Well, hell has frozen over.

Thankfully Cardiff will let me demo the bindings for free so gonna get a few days on these to see what I think.

Word on the street, Union has a new split binding in development right now that should come to market in 2-3 years.

I have some reservations for sure.

Overall they are only slightly heavier than my Arc Pros. Like 6oz for the total pair. With a luggage hang scale, I weighed the deck from the tip clip, with both sets and full hardware mounted.

Honestly, in pow, I think I’m not gonna notice much difference. It’s the bobsled exits where where I’m on my my toe side edge for long periods where I get foot cramps with the Sparks that I’m hoping they will be more comfortable.

^ I admire your openmindedness. I have a pair of Sparks and Unions as well. I like them both, very different and both have their pluses and minuses, it pretty much comes down to what you're looking for and sometimes for me it depends of the environment/terrain I'm going to be in.
