I recently got a Tranny Finder 54 as a hand me down from a homie.
Not sure what year, but it says “Tranny Finder” and has the Mervin like edges as Kimchi described a few pages ago.
It rides a lot different than I expected it to, not in a bad way but it’s pretty stiff and aggressive for a little 54. Kind of a pissed off little thing.
It was like it had a magnet on the nose keeping it down the fall line, it wanted to go fast and make large radius turns, but when I leaned into it the sidecut would grab and hook in a really fun carve driven way. I was just riding mellow early season blue runs at Sugar Bowl but man I had a blast turning that thing. I need more time dialing in ollies on it. A few felt crusp and poppy, a few felt unbalanced and weird due to the shorter tail than I’mm used to, I may set the binders a bit more forward in the future to balance that out. Rode it at pretty much ref stance.
Anyhow, that’s my first impression, I’ve been real stoked to get on a Korua for a while so figured I’d share my experience.

That is a first gen model, at least 8 years old. When they went to full wrap edges they changed the core profile. They are still a stiffer, damper deck, but the newer core profile has a bit more play to it. I've known a few homies that rode first gen deck and hated them, then tried the second gen decks and loved them.

That's super interesting. Stoked I have an OG even if it is just pretty much a rock board. Now I'd really like to get on a new one to feel the diff.

Korua Cafe Racer 59 popped up near me. Solid price, seller says on 5-6 days and if they’re a typical Bay Area rider those are low impact days.

Has anyone tried the new Korua boards made in China?

I want ride reports as well, especially if said rider has time on Nobile pressed boards too. In an *extremely* scientific outing to the snowboard store I handflexed a Polish made Otto 153 and a Chinese made Otto 157. FWIW the Chinese 157 felt softer than the Polish 153. While that may not mean a whole lot, the 157 also clearly had less camber, which caught me a bit off guard. I'm gonna try and go to the other location tomorrow and see if they have a Nobile made 157 in stock, I swear when I originally looked at the Otto 157 earlier in the fall it said "Made in Poland" on it.

I'd like a slightly softer Transition Finder 157 or Otto 157 to be honest. Would make them more useful for occasional freestyle. The Poland made versions are just too stiff for that, at least at my weight and ability level.
