Expensive Divorce - The Split Thread
Re: Expensive Divorce - The Split Thread
Karakorams are the Layback Connect, but I've used the Spark quiver setup on trips. Will tinker some more with the KKs maybe. Would need to adjust heelcup and get a stiffer highback. But the Sparks are great for splitboarding now, just not as good as regular bindings.
Re: Expensive Divorce - The Split Thread
There might be a spec sheet on their support pages, or you can always ask them for it, I did at some point, dunno where it went. There's a width difference too, but it bent in place ok. Need to line it up so toeramp fits comfy, and not too much heel overhang. Also strap placement, but shape of the strap matters alot too. Think I have the medium Lexas, tried many different ones. Used the original Nows before, and they weren't bad, same as on the Plums.Spenser wrote: Sat Jan 11, 2025 6:24 pm I used to know all this stuff.... if I put a small heelcup on medium bases, is it just shorter (for boot length)? Or also lower?
Currently with size 9, I have to push the heelcup all the way forward, and also mount the pucks all the way toward the toe edge, to center my boot... and it's still technically a hair toward the heel. Always found that odd. This is even true with my DCs that are about 1/2 size longer than burton.

I find this only happens when there is a bit of snow/ice in the puck where the slider engages. If you know the spot to clear and have a decent scraper with you it should be a non-issue hopefully.g3greg wrote: Sat Jan 11, 2025 7:18 pm Not to deter you but I've been having issues with my chargers. Specifcally the back foot if it's not lined up perfect(which is slightly behind where the line is, the piece that slides forward to lock you in is very very dificult to press down, so much so that when i press hard it lifts on the footbed. I'll try to record a video so I can also send it to union.

Had a full day in resort and out of resort w the TO.Tubermeister wrote: Tue Nov 05, 2024 1:10 am Have you had a chance to ride the Tour Operator yet?

...
Unfortunately I need to wait a few months in the southern hemisphere to get this tested out but will give this a spin in the resort.
- Base is way better than the Lib, not as speedy as the K2 high end stuff, feels faster than the Burton WFO. I think the Amplids are coming out of the Nitro factory so whatever is their high end base. I was able to rip the resort well and true, I need more time out of bounds to give a full back country assessment.
- Shape is overall good for all around riding if you’re looking for a do it all. Not much taper, close to center stance, directional. Pow performance is average as compared to the Lib (earlier rise and more taper) and the old K2 Ultradream. Camber is not aggro and pretty mellow but almost goes end to end practically. Would prefer a higher camber profile for better touring experience and more lift in the tips for handling pow. Overall a very familiar feel which I like when riding if that makes sense.
- Touring felt pretty good due to its balance. Minor quibbles on wanting more camber and having tips that were earlier rise. The 162 I had didn’t feel particularly heavy and I was able to move the board halves without any dramas. Touring was done at knee/thigh deep powder.
- Ride is damp! Absorbs chatter well. Better than both Lib Split Brd and old K2. The former having lots of Paulownia and the latter being bamboo. The construction feels burly and it doesn’t feel sluggish when going edge to edge. Love the dampness.
- Miscellaneous stuff is good overall. The Phantom clips, and nose and tail clips are nice. They’re no fuss and I prefer them over Karakorams. The tip and tails holes work for their skins. Jury is still out for the included skins, need more time touring time to determine adhesive effectiveness.

Confirmed @indigobc M5x11 fine thread is the hardware you need for the covert. T10 torx bit. Board has virtually no play... so solid.
Re: Expensive Divorce - The Split Thread
@Spencer these are the Phantom clips you were talking about? My Covert has the Union clips, so if you're saying that these make the board more solid and less "splitty", count me in.
Re: Expensive Divorce - The Split Thread
Awesome! Do you know which clips those are? I see that Phantom sells them for three different brand groups, but none list US.Spenser wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 6:14 pm Confirmed @indigobc M5x11 fine thread is the hardware you need for the covert. T10 torx bit. Board has virtually no play... so solid.

Hooks are all the same for top-mount inserts. I'm pretty certain each group just uses a specific hardware... but I wish they would just list which type it is, since they don't list every brand.... and they offer 5 types of hardware, but only 3 brand groups?indigobc wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 7:18 pmAwesome! Either email them and tell them what you need, and they'll probably send you an invoice with the correct parts, or ask which brand group uses M5x11 fine thread
Re: Expensive Divorce - The Split Thread
The board was still nicely solid with unions once bindings were on, it just feels tighter with phantoms since they actually put tension on it.SJF_NH wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 7:05 pm @Spencer these are the Phantom clips you were talking about? Does your covert currently feel "splitty?"
Re: Expensive Divorce - The Split Thread
I wouldn't say it's particularly "spltty" on the ride down, but I feel like anything that might make it tighter is good. I'm acutely aware of the split down the middle of any splitboard no matter the brand/model, although that's probably just a me thing. But if those clips actually make it tighter, I'd be willing to give them a go (even if it's pretty much all in my head)
