Captians log...

They’ll put you in a better mood when you shred ‘em, so pull up a chair and talk about ‘em

This is 10 mins before they started loading. It was 10" new and got like 5-8" more during the day. Absolute ghost town. Basin is fucking huge. First three runs never crossed a single other track. Walk on gondolas all day long. Untracked to the end of the day. Will probably be "the" resort day of the year for me.

This brings back good memories. That day at Basin together few years back was one of the best resort pow days of the past 5 years. I've had better runs and even better snow, but the vibe was so chill without wrangling powder frothing crowds at a big gnarly mega resort.
And that day for Basin was a busy day, lol, a weekend day even.

Slowest start to my season ever, but finally rode today. Small resort, sprinkling most of the day, mid 30s. Surprisingly firm for the first few hours and then was slush over ice.

CK 158 - lots of camber and energy. First burton board I’ve rode in awhile that had some flex that ..flexes back at you? Tons of pop, lays a mean trench, little unforgiving but that’s probably because my legs are rusty too.

Mystery CA 52 - wish it was a 58, was softer than I remember the OG and reissue CAs. Base was super fucking fast. Weirdly light. Will probably keep it because I got it for free sorta? and it’ll be fun around here.

Saturday was still raining/misting when I woke up, still went to the nearish ski hill, took 2 youth (1 was a first timer, the other had tried once before) and got them bunny hill ballin'. Snow (if you can call it that) was the consistency of a gas station slush machine. Yesterday I drove to the UP to Brule and basically just hit the park all day for nothing else was much fun. Noticed a girl riding +/+ who said she raced.

Over summer I had picked up a 46 NUG on marketplace mainly bc I have a friend who is a beginner snowboarder, but skateboards and keeps asking me if a shorter board would be easier, so I thought I'd grab the nug and let him try it fwiw.

But I also had never ridden a nug so I gave it a go this weekend and... what a fun ass board. I just hit kickers and boxes and whatever, throwing grabs and playing around switch and had a blast. Really I thought the edge hold would suck, but it wasn't too bad, though I wasn't maching anything. Definitely gunna keep it.

day 12 or 13 this past friday at breck, not my resort of choice but had a great time.

day 1 on the aeronaut '61 which was most pleasant, from my initial review in the capita thread:

well the aero was exactly what i was looking for, totally in love with it. i would love to see what i rides like in the 55/57...

great flex pattern, fun as hell to turn, and pop for days. kinda hooky riding switch at slow speeds, but i blame the fresh edges and the wizard, not the wand. ate absolute shit riding out of a back 1 and buried the tail not expecting it to grab like it did. did one of my better cab 3's of the season, that tail is very fun to pop switch.

rode groomers, blasted every side i could find, hit a few park jumps and some boxes to see how pressing was (not too bad). i look forward to riding this thing on bigger terrain and pow days. landing spins felt fantastic, especially coming from the TF '54 haha

immediate forecast is extremely warm, 40's in the mountains and 60 and sunny in denver all week (which is good for my other fave activity in golfing). hope ullr returns soon and our base settles a bit after a rather slidy prone january

Also bought a Nug 46 with Customs for less than $50 as a lender. Now I might have to try it.

Screenshots from today. Still letting pow footage add up before I make another video.

11" of light stuff as of about 7am, and snowed a few more by noon. Crust underneath, but didn't find cookies, so it worked out.

Day 4/5. Spent yesterday at palisades and we went to alpine today. Conditions are light years better than what we’ve been getting in western NY this year. The only board I brought with me is the Korua Otto I picked up before the season started. For anyone on the fence I say absolutely pull the trigger. Such a fun shape and I’m finding it to be super versatile. The weather is looking pretty good for lots of snow over the next few days so I’m stoked.

@Jabilitation Hope you're staying on-site at the resort, 89 is going to get HECTIC with that much snow on a weekend and mountain ops will have their hands full. I got an Ikon pass, I'm driving up tomorrow and am opting to pay for a lift ticket to Sugar Bowl... I really don't want to deal with pass through Truckee + driving 89 + Palisades lot with that much snow.

If you're staying in Truckee or Tahoe City, get up early... couple years ago I hit the road from Truckee at 7 Am and didn't get to the Palisades until 10:30. That ended up working out weirdly because I caught an early chair to upper mountain, but it was very annoying in the moment.

If you can ride Tuesday and Wednesday, should be ALL TIME. I hope you don't plan on traveling Sunday, that will be a nutso day in the basin.

Thanks @kimchi! This place is always a great source for information. We’re here through middle of next week so a down day or two over the weekend to avoid crowds and nasty weather isn’t a bad thing.
