Yeah, they should at least offer a replacement. If you bought it on a CC you can dispute the charge with them. The CC company will then contact Mervin.
Ignore my last post. I did not read that it was bought as used. Enjoy your board.
Oh. It was a used demo too? I thought it was bought new and that was kinda the whole point of contention. If it was a used demo board, it wasnt sale product and then it got warrantied out for a brand new production board... idk how Mervin did anything wrong.

Situation seems convoluted.

I only contacted Mervin to find out what board I have. I’m not trying to get anything from them other than a bit of info. I can see it’s going nowhere so I’m done with it.

The board was new. The shop sold it as ‘ex-demo’, probably to avoid responsibility for selling something they shouldn’t have.

I agree the shop is probably at fault here but I sympathise with anyone trying to run a snowboard shop these days. I’m not trying to wheedle a board by sending emails.

You win some you lose some.

I'm not judging. I see all sides and I can identify with each.

You got one thing perhaps thinking it was something else.

The shop is selling a board that can and should be ridden, hopefully at a reduced rate, and they potentially not even be aware of the differences.

Mervin possibly updated the specs sometime after sending demo boards without purposely deceiving anyone.

Preproduction boards are often different than production. For example The OG capita kazu had bamboo sidewalls. By the time they hit stores it was normal abs sidewalls.

Was capita purposely bait and switching? Or did they just make material changes for production reasons or longevity concerns, cost, or whatever.

The issue is clarity. Is mervin obligated to explicitly inform shops of every change made between a demo and production? Or If the shop sold it as a production board, we're they aware of differences. If it was sold as a demo or Preproduction, I personally would make no assumptions it represents the final product... but idk that others would necessarily feel the same way.

As we know I am a little Lib curios so I went and looked at some at my local shop and one kept bringing me back in, the Jamie Lynn from last season. It’s got a healthy dose of camber and a nice looking shape, I’m an 8.5 boot and weigh about 175lbs and they have a couple of 156 for $350. I know that @ad1105 has one. How is it?

I’m currently 210, with a size 9.5 Vans Verse. The 160w was my daily driver last year. It’s the second-most ridden board this season, behind the Megadeath 161w.

The JL feels damp and familiar, with specs that work for me. I like a regular old sidecut without any mag, disruptions or progressive geometry. My Megadeath and the Pencil+ feel more surgical and carvy. I love charging on both but there’s something more ninja about them. The JL is more of a Viking and I don’t worry about it getting fucked up. I jump way more with it than any other board because it’s got the landing gear. Though I do think I compressed the core on my 60w as the topsheet’s bubbled up a bit on my heelside. Something about it just makes me wanna be more gnarly. Its construction is simpler. I don’t have to worry about denting edges on the nose or tail. The base is plenty fast but I stay on top of tuning. It hasn’t ever washed out on me on hardpack or ice. I recognize that it could totally be a psychological, ride like Jamie -kinda thing. Even so, I feel like a better snowboarder when I’m on it. The 160w is my main size. I’d be curious to try the 59. I like the 56 to hit smaller jumps with and I think it’ll be my banked slalom board at the end of the season. It turns just the way I like and can handle a bit more than the weight specs would suggest.

Thanks for the response! If it's still there in a couple of weeks, I might pick it up.

They had a bunch of last season's Banked Country boards but nothing under a 159.

I’m obviously gonna say to go for it. It’s not a board loaded with tech to blow you away and it’s not gonna win any innovation awards. But it’ll be burly and reliable with a no-BS construction. A real tool-not-jewel board that sits on the stiffer, traditional side of things.

That's how I feel about the Lib Rig and Mervin boards in general. Good to have one or two in the quiver.

I’ll see if I can come up with some cash. Most of my boards have some variation of early rise nose with some camber and 7.something side cut. I really want to try something else, especially on the less than spectacular/firm snow days.
