I've been loving the Horizon 159 this season. Feels like it's their all mountain board and the Cadet has been changed just enough to make it proper freeride.

Friend connected to US who wanted my transmission asked if I was interested in a trade for a new cadet 62. Sounds good to me. If I end up deciding I still don't want it, it'll be easier to sell. Kinda stoked though, I had a great time on the one I borrowed.

I have a NOS 58 I would trade for a transmission

I would trade my Cadet for (second/spare) Transmission any time. Unfortunately shipping from/to Finland is way too expensive.

In my opinion even Horizon seems to have better sidecut shape for carving, than Cadet, to me Cadet has way too much “freestyle DNA”.

The Horizon carves pretty well for what it is. Overall the sidecut seems longer than advertised. It has less rocker in the nose than the Cadet and a slightly more defined contact point so the start of the turn is more direct. The Cadet is stiffer and has more camber in the tail so the second half of the turn is more locked and powerful than the Horizon.

Anybody with feelings on the Deep Reach? 20mm of taper and big nose sound great, I'm just curious about how much camber it has and the actual profile in terms of nose rocker too (like where the rocker starts and how it blends into the nose). I'm looking for a new powder board that does well when it gets choppy once it's all tracked out but still has that glide in lower angle fresh. So while I love camber, I want enough rocker or flat in the board up front too.

Generally the US profile is primarily camber, early rise starting about 2/3 between front inserts and nose contact. Early rise for people who like camber & don't want "rocker."

Cadet/transmission list 6mm camber (the two I have experience with). Deep reach lists between 3-4, slightly more as sizes go up. The write-up makes me think the early rise profile leans a little more powder oriented as well (cadet says "gentle early rise" while DR just says "early rise"), but I can't imagine it's like "rocker" where the whole nose is lifted - don't think these guys would do that on any of their boards. I messaged a US friend who has both those, will let you know

Starts about 3" earlier than the cadet. So if the cadet starts about 2/3 toward the nose contact, deep reach maybe slightly before the half-way point? Camber past the front foot for sure, but a longer rise

@Spenser Amazing, thanks for the info! Did your homie mention anything about how they rode compared to each other? I should probably shit or get off the pot but it's tough paying for a new board (even on sale) sight unseen. I've bought plenty of boards off the facebook ST group so I should just get over it I suppose.

Thinking about it for longer than 20 seconds, if your friend owns both then the DR must be pow specific enough to warrant owning at the same time as the Cadet. That's a promising endorsement to me.

To be fair, he's connected with the US and Karakoram guys, so cost isn't an issue for him. They all seem to ride the cadet for the most part, but deep reach looks like it comes out for big dumps

The taper and profile should definitely make it different enough. I mean, I really like having both old and new transition finders, and they're a lot more similar to each other than the two US boards
