Captians log...

They’ll put you in a better mood when you shred ‘em, so pull up a chair and talk about ‘em

He normally rides pretty twin boards like the super DOA, so I assume the kazu feels like it has a little bit of extra float, even if it's not a super floaty board. The last couple days while he's been riding it, it was previously wet snow that dried out, so it has a little bit of a dense feeling to it, making it easier to float. Not super deep, maybe 12". Can't remember what deck he has for deep pow...

I don't know what his rear foot angle is, but it looks pretty aggressive, haha. He's definitely a freestyler, and it works for him - but he's 21 and only has a couple seasons doing any freeriding under his belt, so maybe it'll change in the future.

I'm super happy to know that I'm not the only one still figuring out his airs.

Dope vibe, really liking the new(?) film-esque tone you're using in this. The direction for all edits going forward?

And you know I'm team-melancholy rock, so was def vibing with that too ... NO 🧢 🤪.

Haha thanks! I tried a 16mm film app for filler/b-roll stuff, but ended up liking the "feel" a lot. Shot most of the footage with it, as I consider it pretty mellow/inoffensive. The first section was with the free version at 1080p, but then I decided to pay for it (only $4/mo) to gain 4k & more control. The one missing feature is there's no 48 or 60fps for the occasional slower-mo. All the shots in the edit are slowed to 80%, which is roughly what they do with film footage in shred movies, giving it that certain look. It's the most you can do without getting choppy motion when working with 30fps... 80% speed = effectively standard film rate of 24fps.

The darker/grainy shots in the second section were due to our classic eaglecrest December/January bluebird light.... we're in the shade, and the blue sky with low angle sun makes cameras confused re: white balance/exposure. Still figuring it out for those days, but I still like a lot of those shots.. had to really work on the color correction for a few.

There are a couple in there where I had accidentally reset to default settings, so it was recording at 24fps - so at 80% speed, it's effectively 19fps, making it slightly choppy. The lo-fi look helps hide that, at least.

The feel of the footage was calling for that type of music. I don't think it would have fit as well otherwise. I'd been hanging on to the first song for a while, then spent three whole days searching for a second song 😵‍💫 IMO it's always worth the time.

I'll probably use this style a lot, but don't want to overdo it. I bet you'd like it for your videos/vibe. The app I have is called Super 16 - red square w/ white film strip icon

Yeah, it's great @Spenser and done tastefully 👊🏻. And totally get not wanting to overuse it, esp that the whole film style editing has become a lot more mainstream nowadays.

And lol, I'm nowhere near as skilled at the editing stuff as you. I'm also relatively lazy w editing, I just stick to the video editing apps on the phone if I'm being honest 😅.
