That's sick, just looked up some of the spots and I had no idea they got waves like that there. Hopefully they're nice and empty for you!
Same dude! It's real hard keeping surf fitness and skills up on vacation. We close on the house 12/19, so hopefully some good NC winter swell shows up and I can get back into it!YukonCornelius wrote: ↑Thu Nov 16, 2023 11:53 am i grew up surfing in NJ and my skill has fallen off of a cliff since leaving the coast unfortunately. was in biarritz a few years ago surfing for a few days and mistimed snaps and basic turns and got chucked off my board so many times. timing seems to have gone away along with general water fitness as expected. thankfully, reading the ocean and getting to the right spot didn't disappear.
on that note, going to a consistent point for a few weeks would be unbelievable for skill improvement, and i can only imagine spending a few sessions in a wave pool would advance skill level dramatically. you could get more waves over the course of 10 hours in a wave pool that most people get in a year

If I'm not in the water, my paddle conditioning is garbage, and I'm not out often enough for it to get better. And on the wave pool bit, even when I was in the water every other day, I might catch best case scenario 6-8 waves in an hour.eleveneightnate wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 11:16 am i grew up surfing in NJ and my skill has fallen off of a cliff since leaving the coast unfortunately. was in biarritz a few years ago surfing for a few days and mistimed snaps and basic turns and got chucked off my board so many times. timing seems to have gone away along with general water fitness as expected. thankfully, reading the ocean and getting to the right spot didn't disappear.

This is one of the reasons I've really come to love skating in the past year or so. Consequences are higher, but progression is so much easier because I get so many reps when I drop into a bowl. Can't speak to surfing, but I can tell my snowboarding will be much stronger this season because I have just overall better awareness on transition and what my body's doing because my margin of error is smaller.
congrats dude that is awesome!eleveneightnate wrote: ↑Thu Nov 16, 2023 12:06 pmSame dude! It's real hard keeping surf fitness and skills up on vacation. That's a proper duck stance!
