Check out my new...
Re: Check out my new...
Unfortunately I don't have any hard deets other than impressions from riding it. The demo was a 159 and I did measure it, the waist is about 25.4 and the tip and tail are about 29.8, but don't quote me on these numbers. In part because I was about 3 beers in when measuring, and there are no specs listed anywhere online, so I'm assuming they don't want the numbers released yet.
Hand flexing it's pretty stiff but it flexes really well when riding, and it's very easy to load and launch if that's your thing, it has a ton of spring. It does have a longer nose so it's pretty directional but riding switch is no prob. One of the online websites describes the Candle as a "freesyle" board. Yeah... maybe if you're Pat Moore, but for normal people it's more on the all-mountain or even freeride spectrum. I like stiff boards and this is no exception, it takes muscle to press the nose and tail, so your results may vary. And I always expect demo boards to be slow, but they must be using decent material in the base because it's quite fast. Two shop guys that I know attended an on-snow demo this year for all manufacturers and they both said that the Candle was their favorite out of everything they rode at the demo, and neither one has any particular fondness for Arbor. I'm really interesetd to see the specs on this one, I think they're doing something unusual with the sidecut, because it's an absolute killer when it comes to making any kind of turn at any speed.

Found this: Featuring dual-radius nose and tail ramping, the Rain offers a powerful ride with less hang up and the perfect powder float. Pat's parabolic camber, directional twin, board of choice tastefully blends the best of traditional snowboard design qualities and the state of the art for the shining addition to your quiver.
I'm not into this but I've generally always liked Arbor boards... except the brass edges they used for a brief minute on their jib boards.

My new Tur Buteo 157. Was 20% off so couldn't resist. Borrowed one 2 seasons ago and loved it. Don't know why I didn't bought one then.

Good catch Fuzz. I'm not sure what a dual-radius nose, tail ramping, or parabolic camber is... all I know is that it's an absurdly fun and aggressive board that I'll definitely have in the line-up for next season.C.Fuzzy wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 11:09 am Found this: Featuring dual-radius nose and tail ramping, the Rain offers a powerful ride with less hang up and the perfect powder float. Thanks again! I'd still prefer the 62 length, but now seeing this comparison, the 57 is a very viable orbit alternative. Still easier to get the transmission next year, but always tempting.unsuspected wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 11:42 am My new Tur Buteo 157. Was 20% off so couldn't resist. I took this to snow a couple times this season. Not feeling it. It's fine, but just too soft and too narrow for my tastes. Really looking for some camber in the tail. Carves surprisingly well, but doesn't have much snap turn to turn. Don't dislike it enough that it ever kept me from having fun, but was always looking for a bit more out of it.kimchi wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 2:46 pm Santa Cruz Decal 3 160 cm, still in the shrink wrap. Handflexes soft as shit. 5.5 / 10 but I'd call it more like a 4.
I can't figure out what's going on with the "Snap! Rocker". The marketing copy makes it sound like mellow rocker but visually it looks flat. I don't really see or feel any discplacement of camber when I press it anywhere... don't feel the middle displace down when I press between the bindings, don't see the board rock up when I press at the tips. Slipping a sheet paper underneath, I feel a little more resistance just outside the inserts, so guessing it's mellow cam-rock bordering on flat? Definitely not expecting much snap or power out of this thing.
Edit: Looked at it a little more closely in better light, I think it's basically a very mellow flatkick.
Haven't decided what to do with it. Waaaaaaay softer than I anticipated, will probably be the softest non-rental board I've ever ridden if I keep it. May just sell it back into the world still in wrap, ride it and see if I like it as a park board, or just stash it at my parents' so I don't have to travel with a deck when I cruise with the SoCal kooks at Big Bear.
Anyone got any beta about the Santa Cruz revival? Don't see a "Made in" sticker or stamp anywhere. If not for the JP Walker Pro, I'd assume it was just a cash grab zombie brand like whatever the fuck's going on with Palmer. Seems to be based out of Europe, all the MSRPs on the website are in Euros.

I took a peek through Capita/SB's 23/24 catalog and was super bummed to not see the Ultralights not in the lineup for next season :/ Really in the market for a new pow board and that was one of the front runners for me along with the Surfer and the Amplid Aloha Vibes. You get the chance to take out on a good day yet?ninja_nate wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 10:56 am Out with the old in with the new. I blew out the edge of my powder pill about 4 years ago and it was my absolute favorite pow board. After a few years of not making the powder pill, Spring Break brought it back these last 2 years and I decided to finally pull the trigger when I found it 25% off.

Powder Racer FTW. It rides really similar but with mellow camber instead of flat and it’s way less expensive.iheartsierracement wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 4:01 pmI took a peek through Capita/SB's 23/24 catalog and was super bummed to not see the Ultralights not in the lineup for next season :/ Really in the market for a new pow board and that was one of the front runners for me along with the Surfer and the Amplid Aloha Vibes. Don't tell anyone but The circle whistler has a few on sale and with the conversion rate they're sub 400.eleveneightnate wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 5:19 pmPowder Racer FTW. Isn’t Santa Cruz run by the skate shop in Santa Cruz? Looks like basic graphic models with biax and extruded besides the pro models that are basic decent boards with triax and sintered. Sometimes you don’t need more, and JP has been like that with boots too.kimchi wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 3:14 pmI took this to snow a couple times this season. Not feeling it. The Palmer stuff has been pretty much unchanged since he left it I think, probably selling off old stock, almost always been based in Europe, since he got in with Kessler I think?
