Rode mine all day today, didn’t care for them.
Got in and out of them fine, you can get out easily while riding if you twist your heel up and inward.
It’s hard to describe the way they feel. Mechanical but also sloppy? I definitely have heel play in mine. And yes, I’m fully clicked in and riding my normal/correct Burton boot size in these Photons.
Anyway, to me they feel like a step toward skiing and a step away from the board sports that inspire my snowboarding. I hate the total lack of lateral mobility and couldn’t care less that they have slightly better edge to edge response at the expense of it. My riding style is more slashy/buttery/freestyle than boarder cross and I love shadowfit if that says anything. To each their own, but I’m gonna sell mine for mucho profit and get back to muh straps.
On a positive note: I’m teaching my girlfriend to ride (she’s finally switching from skiing) and got her a pair, too. They’re great for both of us getting in and out of efficiently during her learning process.

Sloppy? Definitely not. You prob had something going on (heel lift? Boot fit?) if you felt that. I'd say the negative is that its the opposite of sloppy so some people don't like that.
Either way, different strokes for different folks.
I love that StepOn is driving all this innovation in the industry. I'd love to try FASE next season and see how it compares, but for now I'm just happy to not have to deal with straps anymore and have different evolving options.
I may sound like a fanboy, but I'm not at all. I just really like them. I would jump to a different system tomorrow if it was better FOR ME. That's how everyone should look at it. It's all good.

I spent an entire season on them, but thanks.
If you spent a season in them and ate shit getting out... Then it's a you problem.
You have an incredible intellect.
I don't even know what this means...
If you rode them for a season and continually ate shit getting out it's user error. I don't think they'd be as popular as they are if this was normal...
I ride them and have friends that ride them and we all have complaints, nothing is perfect, but eating shit while getting out? Haha not one of them.

Definitely yes. Literally just got done riding them a few hours ago. I’m in perfect fitting Photons in the same size I’ve been riding Burtons for years, it’s not a boot fit thing. There’s play between the boot and binding where the cleat connects to the highback. It does it without even being in the boots.
I dunno many times you can tell people what they’re experiencing isn’t happening just because you had a different (better) experience with StepOns. You’re starting to sound like a used car salesman.

No need to get nasty. You're obviously misunderstanding me. I'm not saying what you're experiencing isn't happening. I'm saying that it's not normal.
I have hundreds of days on them with multiple boots and bindings. I ride with friends that have even more days than that. If you're having issues with rear cleat play then it sounds like something is wrong with your binding. There is play in the toe cleats by design, but no play with the rear cleat.
I'd shoot Burton a message. It's probably a warranty issue.

You’ve been pretty defensive and dismissive of other opinions throughout the thread, so pardon me.
I’m at the absolute bottom of the size range for larges with my 11s. I’ve heard it’s a thing in that scenario, but who knows.
Anyway, no HardOn for StepOn for me. Even without the heel play, it restricts lateral movement way too much for my riding style. Glad you like them.

I don't feel that I have been, but if I came off that way it wasn't intended. I just have a TON of experience with these as an expert rider and ride with a couple others that have even more experience. All good.
I'm at the absolute bottom range of the mediums with a 8.5 boot and haven't experienced this. I could see a scenerio where the boot sole is out of spec or something. In that case, Burton would provide a thicker foam layer or a lower cleat. Again, a Burton warranty issue.
If you aren't digging the lateral flex, then yeah, they definitely aren't for you. If you want to try quick entry, maybe Supermatics? Or quick-ish entry, FASE next season.
Like I said, I'm just psyched to see bindings evolving.

A massive fight, by EL standards
Historically, 11 in Burton/Burton could go either way, with pros/cons to each. I'm not hands-on familiar with stepon - is 11 feasible in mediums, and could it potentially help?

Yuge!
Unfortunately with StepOn, each boot size has its cleat spacing spec’d to specific binding sizes so you can’t go up or down in size like normal. All good though, they’re getting the eBay treatment haha.

Try to sell locally! eBay has such huge fees. I price things at least in 20% to 30% higher on eBay than I do locally and most of the time sell locally first.

We recently moved to the NC coast, so I don’t really have a market to sell snow stuff locally, but maybe. I use eBay a lot but the fees are getting out of hand.
