The Transcends I had for (literally) 24 hours were bulky as hell just like the Judges. They didn't fit me well, but even if they did I would've sent them straight back because of the footprint bumping me into large bindings. My 10.5 Acerras are way less bulky and way smaller in footprint and volume like you said. Total joke. My old Imperials are smaller in footprint as well.

Also, pretty sure those Judges have the same soles the Transcends have, so they're gonna be the same footprint and the newer DC boots have a new liner that takes up more space inside the boot than the old liners in your Judges. I had no room in the forefoot at all.

As someone who has also been on the Adidas train for a while, I'd just skip DC if I were you. It would just be disappointment haha. Once my Acerras and Tacticals wear out, it'll be Ride or Burton for me.

I'm confused as to how my transcends are comparable enough in length and volume to an ion (again, only very slightly longer, and don't seem more bulky) while you both feel they're bulky I've had imperials too, same as ion IMO

Only boot I've had with a smaller footprint & volume than Burton was Salomon F4 where the liner is part of the shell. Those things would make anything look bulky.

I guess it's all relative to what you're used to, what you need out of a boot, and what your size is. Since I'm a 10.5, small differences to someone else become big differences to me when I'm right on the bubble for binding sizes. Adidas basically ruined it for us by making ridiculously small footprints while maintaining roomy toe boxes. I'm 11.5ish in street shoes, but can fit into a 10.5 adidas which has the footprint of at least a 9.5 in other boots if not smaller. If a DC 10.5 has a larger footprint than an Adidas 10.5 and ontop of that I have to go to 11s because of the fit, then I'm also having to replace every binding I own and rethink some of the boards I ride as well.

Maybe it's more noticeable in a larger size (separate from "more important in a larger size")

I shaved my heel/toe angle because at steep board angle while carving, even a 9 can graze at times on 260-264. Doesn't actually drag, I just don't like feeling it. The "sharper" DC angle was just enough to bring that back at times, but all good now. A lot of the "extra" rubber was just the zig zag tread anyway. Even focused my re-shaping on the key corners for my forward stance

This is probably it. I’ve noticed around size 11 adidas and Burton meet with similar footprints, but up from there Burton is smaller and down from their adidas is smaller.

Huh, that's interesting. At least they didn't fit you well!

@spenser (or anyone else that bought them) how are those DC Transcends holding up? Did they need heat molding or did they break in nicely? It may be time for me to get over my BOA bias!

They fit well out of the box for me, then went through a "fine adjustment" period and now are all good again. The initial flex breaks in very quickly and then they kinda stay there.

If you like a true 8/10, no dice. They're around a 6 in reality.

Cant comment long term yet, but they're certainly not falling apart!

I find this to be true as well. I do not feel as market average for boots that they are bulky at all, in fact I find them to be slim and fit my low volume feet super well. My Vans that I use for splitboarding are crazy bigger compared to my DCs.
