Not much around the sides, but can help with the clamping force over the top.

I had the burton's, used it on the many salomon f24 that I had, great boots but loose their stiffness really quickly, so that tongues saved me some money.🙂

We'll see if I can get another set of burtons first, but I am curious about their different shape..

@Spenser Nitro have a tongue stiffener in some boots, wonder if they have them available separately and if they would work?

That's right, I remember now they have a boot or two with a variable flex rating. Watched the video for the capital boot, stiffener looks like it's based on the same concept. Not sure how I'd get one, but at least they exist. I think I got these burtons from a guy who didn't want them when I sold him a pair of drivers. I had them for years before I tried them in very used SLXs in 2017.. added a whole extra season of happy use

Didn't see these when I looked at deeluxe, but someone pointed them out with their name. Looks like a solid option, and comes in 3 support levels, but can't find any in the US. However, their video makes whichever level they're using look soft, and a review on bluetomato says even the stiffest one only makes a small difference.

Empire will ship them to the US, but the total ends up being like $50. Someone with a 3D printer could probably make them. Especially if they had a 3D scanner to get all the exact dimensions.

I saw them there, just not into paying 3x the product cost for shipping. Either way, good to figure out the options out there for future reference. I guess nitro makes them too, but they only come with boots.

If we're honest, it's not in a boot makers best financial interest to offer a cheap solution to make a boot last a lot longer, hah.

3D printing would make it easy! I'd send out my burtons in the off-season for development 😜

Old ski boots had tongues like that... easy enough to source, take out and mod I'd imagine
