are y’all using the standard Blackstrap balaclava, or one the more “hood” style ones like the Team or Treble? never really heard of people having issues with the standard.

i grabbed the Crab Grab Waffle Clawva this season and am quite pleased. i’ve become a big fan of anything microgrid fleece the last few years for all kinds of layering.

I've been using the Burton AK Microgrid Fleece Balaclava this year since the switch to Dang Goggles and I'm loving it

nice, that one was on my list, opted for Crab Grab for a colored option.

I’ve still got my MFI tech clava that’s microgrid on the inside with a little bit of a coating on the outside for v cold days that i don’t want my nose exposed, although i just snapped my last MFI connector.

the Coal Sentinel is similar, but with a more substantial shell outer, which is nice when it’s snowing out.

I have three balaclavas in my rotation: a thin Smartwool one, a medium-weight Blackstrap, and a thicker Mountain Hardwear. Honestly, I haven't needed the Mountain Hardwear in a couple of years, to the point that I won't pack it unless I'm pretty certain I'll be riding in a storm.

My favorite is the Blackstrap, mostly for the articulation, but I haven't tried one with microgrid fleece yet.

have both the standard and expedition versions. Been really impressed with durability and fit for both of them. Expedition (version for cold and powder days) will get moist if I'm working hard, but it's never frozen over and dries pretty quickly throughout the day. I run really cold too, and have been surprised it keeps my cheeks, neck, ears warm.

My Burton Ember fleece facemask has become one of my main essentials. Love the look and feel of them and more than warm enough for the windchill days here. Really like the ability to move the lower half separately, depending on temp/mood.

Those, my AirPill clear goggs & my Infuse Longo boots are the 3 most important items for me the last few seasons, personally.

I decided to try a different combo of layers under my Volcom L jacket and wore pants instead of bibs today and gloves instead of mittens. What the fuck was I thinking, I was freezing!

I’ve been looking at this one for cold days. Hope it works out. I got an Aclima long sleeve from a fishing shop. It was mega warm, for people who stand around in the cold for days waiting for fish I guess.
