A Thread For Goggles
Re: A Thread For Goggles
What do folks do with extra lenses on slope? They seem too fragile to carry in a jacket (at least for me) and heading back to the parking lot to swap isn't practical for my resorts. I just pick something for the day and deal if I picked wrong.
I was tempted to use a Burton warranty credit on some Anons because non-magnetic lens swaps are a PITA, but I realized I never even carry replacement lens on me because I'm afraid of breaking them. The only time I ever carry another set of lens is on pow days on a duplicate frame-- and that's more in case I can't clear my goggles than for tint. Replacement lens are expensive too, so buying a new frame with 2 lens on sale is often more economical.

Here, we have one main lift, and there is an upper mountain lift that's not always open. We are lucky in that it's totally safe to leave your pack at the top or bottom station, making it super easy to have access to extra gear, water, snacks… I have a hard case with my lenses in it, so it's really easy if I need to swap.
If it weren't for that, I wouldn't carry in my jacket unless I knew I'd want it, which I don't think has ever happened. It's just so infrequent that I need to swap - and if I really do, it's not a big deal to go to my vehicle.

This would be ideal, but Palisades has 3 separate base areas, 2 mid-mountain areas, and a huge lot. A top to bottom run is ~10 minutes if I book it and 20 minutes back up, plus another 10-20 minutes just to walk to and from my car depending how good a parking spot I got. Best case scenario even leaving a pack at the bottom is a 30 minute side trip even if I wasn't worried about the bag getting yoinked.Spenser wrote: Tue Dec 05, 2023 11:55 am Here, we have one main lift, and there is an upper mountain lift that's not always open. so the clear lenses I got for my new M3s came with a hardcase (which makes me less annoyed at the $80 price tag for CLEAR lenses)

This is probably fine for the average destructiveness rider, but the past 20 years of blowing up 3 boards, shattering 3 binding heelcups, fuck knows how manyAK warranties and replaced ratchets / straps / ladders in the past ~15 has proven pretty definitively I am above average destructiveness lol.benjinyc wrote: Tue Dec 05, 2023 12:28 pmso the clear lenses I got for my new M3s came with a hardcase (which makes me less annoyed at the $80 price tag for CLEAR lenses)otherwise, I just put the extra lenses in my chest pocket wrapped in a plastic baggy, never had any issues.
That M3 looks interesting. Do they sell it separately? Can't seem to find it poking around the website.

Re: A Thread For Goggles
back when i rocked a legbag and airgoggles, I took advantage of the goggle sleeve in the legbag. curve matched with leg/boot curve so I felt pretty safe.
these days i'm never too far from the car for a middway swap, tho. if you're running a pack or vest, that hardcase might be enough to provide safety inside the bag.

Re: A Thread For Goggles
most goggle lenses are pretty robust, my biggest worry was scratching the lens or getting moisture trapped inside them.
I feel like the impact you'd need to crack/shatter them would be so much that I'd be worried about breaking a rib or kidney. If I'm not wearing a jacket or have a place to put my spare lenses in, I'll just rock the clears, even in the sun. Id rather carry a pair of sunglasses on me than a spare lens
having said that, that case that my anon lens came in looks like something you can find a generic Chinese version for, looks like amazon sold an anon branded one at one time

I often carry a spair lens in the inside pocket of my jacket in a goggle bag but I have been finding lots of wee cracks in the IO Mag XL lenses (they don't create issues) so I may stop.

Re: A Thread For Goggles
The anon lens cases are nice, but form fitted for each M series goggle so AFAIK, no cross compatibility really.
That said, I never bring an extra lens with me on hill lol

Same, would feel too worried about falling in an awkward position and landing on the spare if I kept it in a pocket. I would just switch out the goggs in my car, if current lens affected the vis drastically.
