Nice freeride quiver.Yeti wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 1:53 am
The Alchemist isn’t as gnarly as you think. It will serve the spot of a daily freeride all mountainish board in my quiver (more on freeride side due to the directional nature). If you generally like stiffer boards there’s nothing to be scared of. I also like that the sidecut doesn’t feel as low as in the specs, more like in the higher end of 8 m (the designer confirmed that when I PMed him).
I think its best selling points are:
- the flex on the 163 I rode was like a perfect stiffness for both charging hard and enjoying it at slow speeds. It is really dialed.
- the pop from the carves is exceptional
- mogul riding capabilities. I’ve never enjoyed a true red (your black) slope with heavy moguls as much as on the Alchemist. The nose seems to be soft but it has enough stiffness up to the contact points not to fold when driven hard from the front foot in uneven terrain. Absorbs a lot of chatter but remains super lively.
It’a a playful charger daily driver if you ride hard.
About the Smokescreen - I haven’t ridden mine yet but it seems to have a softer nose than the Alche, stiffer mid section and a touch softer tail. This is only the hand flex test.
Base check on the Alchemist? Been keeping an eye on this since its release. The specs on base material on the website say two different bases and wasn't sure if they dropped the Carbon infused base this season.
Re: The Official quiver thread
Thanks. They have indeed downgraded the base and changed the core. I’ve snagged the 2022 for that reason cos I also remember that super glide on the one I’ve tested. I’ll try to test the 2023 and compare them.tp1_kenobi wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 5:38 pmNice freeride quiver.Yeti wrote: ↑Sun Sep 25, 2022 1:53 am

Re: The Official quiver thread
Got some feedback from JG's instagram K2 post from one of the K2 snowboard designers on the 2023 Alchy
"thanks for the questions! The 2023 didn’t get any downgrades. The new S1 core is actually a new and improved version of the bambooyah Pro core. Lighter weight but just as smooth and durable when charging through choppy snow. The new wax infused sintered base is as fast as our old carbon sintered base, we did a lot of testing and no one could tell the difference when the base was waxed properly. The only “downgrade” would be the colored bases are harder to match p-Tex colors when making base repairs compared to the all black base, if that’s something you care about. Feel free to holler with any other questions!"
