Opening days proved to have better coverage than I thought, so I took the transmission out for a few laps today. Some good patches, but mostly bumpy leftovers - not great conditions to judge a new board, but I've ridden in this stuff countless days. So far, mostly what I expected compared to the orbit. Very familiar, but a different feeling through the nose, having no early rise. Doesn't quite have the natural glide-over-the-top feeling as the orbit, which of course was expected. Feels a little stiffer in general. Not making any full judgments yet - will get it out on a good day. The carving feel is similar - more drive & bite at the front contact, which again was expected. I notice the increased width & larger radius a little.

Overall, I would say they are fraternal twins, but not identical. One of them goes to the gym more than the other.

I really wish the deep reach were stiff, cause I'd probably buy one. I think my quiver is ready for a "normal" pow board again, instead of choosing either the orbit 57 or hammerhead 71. That's what the stranda shorty would have been if it worked for me.

Edit: took a closer look, and with contact points lined up, looks like the transmission is slightly less setback than the orbit. I put my bindings on the inserts the same way at first, leaving me slightly forward in comparison, and that is one of the things I was feeling on snow. Set it back accordingly after doing some measuring - thinking it will be better next time.

TM is for sure a more aggressive orbit. Sheesh. I need a good day on this thing.

Definitely liked my setback correction

Edit: Back on orbit today. I may be super used to this board, but instantly felt awesome. I've always been good at adapting to new boards, but the transmission is fairly demanding in less than ideal conditions. Otherwise I think it's just a powerful tank for advanced riders. This is generally what I like, and I understand it's what a lot of people would say about the orbit, but the difference is noticeable. Both my big boards are easier/less demanding, even though they have a bunch more edge, are stiff, etc.... it's in the design nuances. Personally I think a lot of it is in the TM nose.

If the orbit tests you, don't get a transmission 😜

Things I would tweak… back off on waist width, and have more of a blend zone at the front contact, to alleviate the aggressive bite that doesn't need to be all the way to the very end. Essentially split the difference between orbit early rise & TM full camber.

I also wonder if in this rare case I'd actually like the 54 more... it would probably feel more similar to the orbit 57 overall

Here the season started with good groomers for carving, and I fell in love with Transmission immediately, it is by far my best carving and daily driver board all in one. It even steers on edge better, than Cheater, previously I thought that Cheater steers about perfectly, but Transmission is even better. 8-)

Later on, we had some icy days and some bumpy days, fortunately Transmission have good edge hold in icy conditions but does not have as good dampening as Cheater or Pentaquark, it does have adequate dampening, just not as good. So far, I found longer edge and better dampening of Cheater more enjoyable on only one very bumpy and icy evening, all other times I enjoyed Transmission more. ;)

In my opinion Transmission is much less demanding than Cheater or even Pentaquark, yes, it does have race car feeling, but because everything works so well, it is somehow easily accessible.
