Hardgoods 23/24
Re: Hardgoods 23/24
At least it’s recycled, but I’m not sure if it’s just ground up and then extruded as cheaper high quality base material, or they put the pieces in the boiler or whatever. Seems like Mervin is trying to distribute their portion of the cutouts within the line, which is nice in an idealistic sense, but I guess most factories recycle. Using the construction Forum does on jib boards is perfectly fine, but street rats going through 10 boards for that price won’t happen. If the money goes to discounts or free boards for some team riders, I guess it’s fine for those that buy them.
Re: Hardgoods 23/24
Same with 24 Ultrafear. ''SUPERDRIVE™ EX is the benchmark for sintruded material.'' I really want Ultrafear but i hate extruded bases. And its almost 500 euros.

The misconceptions of TNT, and thus probably sintruded in general, never seem to die. No, it's not sintered, and yes, I definitely prefer sintered, but they aren't simply extruded. I can't say specifically for "sintruded" on other brands, but Mervin's TNT is a multi layer base that essentially has both, and has teflon built in. It's easier to maintain compared to sintered, but tougher, faster, and still likes wax compared to extruded. A lot of people hate on them, and maybe they don't like them which is fine - but it's not the same material. Personally I've never had problems with it, and can definitely tell the difference compared to extruded. I'm not super picky, but if there's a problem with their bases, it's in the finishing process. We've all seen the common fuzzy Mervin base. The sintered GNUs I've had have only been marginally better than TNT. None of their bases hold a candle to what I've had on boards like nitro, US, stranda… but they still work fine for me

Maybe i need to try sintruded. I have had a few bad experiences with extruded bases. When its -20c with man made snow the bases wear out pretty fast around the edges.

From what I have learned, a base is either Extruded, or Sintered. The rest is just marketing lingo.Spenser wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 2:08 pm The misconceptions of TNT, and thus probably sintruded in general, never seem to die. I could be wrong and don't claim to be an expert, J-Stone broke it down pretty well on a recent Bomb Hole Group Chat, that made sense to me.

Re: Hardgoods 23/24
Sintruded is extruded with a UHMWPE material (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene -- instead of extruded from PE or HDPE). UHMWPE is what most sintered bases are made from. Sintruded can have additives (carbon nano, etc) to it as well. So yes, it's kinda marketing.
